If you’re craving white tropical beaches, a Bavaro holiday should be at the top of your wish-list. This resort sits elegantly on the Dominican Republic’s east coast and boasts beautiful beachfront hotels, 5-star spas, glittering white sands and swim-up bars. Bavaro's most enticing attraction is its 10 kilometre golden beach complete with pretty palm umbrellas and colourful beach shacks, while it also benefits from being an adult-only beach.
Once you’ve embraced some well-deserved rest and recuperation, take advantage of the resort’s first-class sporting facilities including excellent golf courses, kite surfing, windsurfing and horse riding – you certainly won’t be short of fun in the Caribbean sun! After immersing yourself in the Dominican flavours and tropical sunshine as you holiday in Bavaro, head out on a day trip to the nearby natural park, catch a catamaran out to sea or go on a safari and explore the lush island interior. Bavaro is also a fantastic destination for foodies to explore around as you discover a wide range of restaurants and bars serving local and international cuisines.
Bavaro is located just 21 km from Punta Cana with the nearest airport, The Punta Cana International, just 25 minutes’ drive away. Bavaro is well connected by roads from all major tourist hotspots in the neighbourhood. Bavaro is best visited during the months of March, April and May. The peak season rush, during these months, flows out and you can soak into the balmy climate with the welcome temperatures in the day and a pleasant ambience in the evening.
Bavaro’s 10-kilometre coastline is a major draw for sun-lovers. Whether you want an afternoon of relaxation or to get stuck in with the watersports, there's plenty to keep you occupied on this sandy stretch. Pick a palm-thatched umbrella to laze under, grab a cocktail from the beachside shacks or walk along the mangroves spotting the coconut trees.
A good day begins with a healthy breakfast, which in Bavaro means eating eggs with a side of fried salami, mangu, and queso frito. The local Dominican cooking will induce spontaneous visits to local restaurants, where you can try authentic cuisines like sancocho (traditional soup), tostones (fried plantain), meat stew, lobster and pureed plantain stuffed with shrimp. And, if you're looking for places that serve international platters, try your hotel buffet.
There is plenty of opportunity to explore the island's tropical countryside if you want an afternoon away from the beach. Less than an hour away you'll find Del Este National Park, a UNESCO-listed heritage site that is home to exotic birds, reptiles and insects along with beautiful flora and fauna. Or catch a bird's eye view as you zoom through the towering trees on a zip wire. Finish the day off with a dip in the natural lagoons!
Bavaro has amazing nightlife options whether you're looking for low-key or lively. If you want to stay closer to home you'll find plenty of entertainment at the hotels while there are top notch bars, lounges and discos dotted around the town and by the beach. The party crowd head to Los Corales and El Cortecito where you can listen to local musicians and DJs and enjoy live music too.
