Larnaca is one of the most stunning beach resorts in the beautiful eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The beach town has an international airport and is well connected to the nearby cities of Paphos and Limassol by regular bus services. It takes 3 hours to travel from Limassol to Larnaca and 2.5 hours from Paphos to Larnaca.
There are a lot of fun-filled things to do during your Larnaca holidays. The town boasts an incredible coastline which is dotted with lively resorts, an endless chain of bars and restaurants, golden sands and neon-blue bays. No wonder, holidays in Larnaca are popular with families, friends and couples alike.
As one of the most popular summer holiday destinations in the Mediterranean, the resort offers heaps of kid-friendly activities, theme parks, water parks and plenty of options for water sports such as swimming, snorkeling and surfing. Along the coast lies the party town of Ayia Napa, where revelers come to let their hair down and dance to music played by famous DJs till the early hours. For art lovers, there are the local museums, which give a glimpse of the rich history of Cyprus. The Municipal Wind Orchestra of the town organizes musical shows, where all kinds of music, from jazz to rock ‘n’ roll to original film soundtracks are played. Each summer, the city also decks up for Festival of the Flood, a cultural festival featuring the best the city has to offer. Holidays in Larnaca are the best way to soak up the summer sun.
Whether you're looking for somewhere young and lively or family friendly – you won't be short of sunbathing spots. CTO beach is best for family holidays thanks to its shallow waters, soft sand and entertainment facilities including a children's playground and watersports. If you're after an all-rounder, Finikoudes has a variety of waterfront restaurants and bars, golden sands and is just a stone's throw away from the lively town. Mackenzie is buzzing with trendy cafés and bars blaring the latest hits, Miami-inspired canopy beds and DJs playing to the crowds from the waterfront decks.
Give the kids a chance to blow off some steam at WaterWorld. Adrenaline junkies can take on The Fall of Icarus, Apollos Plunge, and The Quest of Heracles at the popular Ayia Napa park, while those who want to make a softer splash can stick to bathing in Aphrodite's Baths, or opt fora lazy trip down the calmer Odyssey River. If the rides haven't worn the kids out already, hop next door to EMW Go Karts and they can take to the tracks instead!
If you're looking for an energetic evening, Larnaca's nightlife will never disappoint. Buzzing beachgoers should head to Mackenzie beach and the XS Night & Day Club, where cocktails can be enjoyed with your toes in the sand. For drinks, a stroll around Old Limassol and Saripolou Square is a good place to start where you can hop between stylish venues – InTheory, Socialista, Salut and Meli Bar, are all firm favourites. Those that want to keep the party going can head into Ayia Napa's clubs, where foam is all part of the fun!
The Larnaca Salt Lake is located to the west of the town and is home to a flock of colourful flamingos that roost between November and March. The area surrounding the lake is made up of lush rolling hills and magnificent mountains, perfect for a sunset stroll.
From stylish and chic to family run and family friendly, Larnaca has a variety of restaurants serving local and international cuisine. Take a trip to one of the fabulous local Greek tavernas (small restaurants) to savour amazing sharing platters, local cheeses, stews and grilled seafood. A few of Larnaca's excellent eateries include the Aquarium Bar Café, Grada Tavern, To Kazani Traditional Tavern, The Balti House, Maqam Al Sultan, and Art Cafe 1900.
This pretty little village is backed by the majestic Troodos Mountains and is a warren of cobbled streets, amazing architecture and balconies draped in colourful blooms. Potter around Lefkara's plaza and you'll spot several shops selling local lace and silverware – many of the women who handmake the lace sit in their doorway where you can watch them practicing their trade. Rumour has it that Leonardo Da Vinci visited Lefkara to buy an Altar cloth, which can be found today in Milan's Cathedral. So why not follow in his footsteps and purchase some gorgeous pieces to take home?
Larnaca is famous for its seaside position and it’s beautiful coastal walkaway is where you can have both your morning coffee and your evening beer. Potter along the palm-lined promenade during the day or at night and you'll be surrounded by a spectacular scene of buzzing restaurants, cafes and bars, which in summer fully revs up for the annual flood of holidaymakers. At one end you can marvel at the magnificent marina mooring yachts, whilst on the other you'll find a museum and a castle to keep you occupied.
Find great buys on handmade lace, silverware, pottery, and authentic Cypriot accessories. You will find some of the best shopping spots in and around Larnaca. Try the Sunday open-air market on Ermou Street, which is open from 10am to 1pm. You’ll find everything from clothes, local crafts, souvenirs and flowers to snacks including fruits and vegetables.
