Protaras holidays offer a wonderful opportunity to experience the very best of Cyprus' beautiful beaches and diving opportunities. Situated on the southwestern coast of Cyprus, this historic resort town is not only recognised for its golden sandy beaches and azure blue waters, but also its world-class diving spots.
The island boasts a six-pack of gorgeous beaches, the most famous of the bunch being Fig Tree Bay complete with impressive watersports and a picturesque island you can swim out to. The coastline also serves up Blue Flag stretches including Green Bay, Sirena Bay and the captivating rocky cliffs of Cape Greco. The wonderfully warm weather adds to the beauty of this purpose-built resort, remaining mild and sunny from early spring until winter – perfect for late escapes.
The compact streets of this resort town are easy to explore by foot, and you'll find a string of lively bars and restaurants situated on the main street, which are great for families and friends. In the daytime, you can hike from the pretty hilltop chapel Profitis Elias to the nearest beach, hop on a boat trip and visit neighbouring islets and resorts, or choose a balmy beach to lounge on and soak up the Mediterranean sun. When evening arrives head into Protaras Avenue for an excellent line-up of restaurants and bars, or if you want to go one step further than the pubs, party-central Ayia Napa is just a 10-minute drive away. Whatever you decide to do during your holidays to Protaras, you'll never be short of fun in the sun.
While Fig Tree Bay is the most popular and central beach in Protaras, it’s certainly not the only one. There are five more to sink your toes into! Some boast Blue Flag status (including Protaras Beach), and if you’re looking for tranquillity, Green Beach and Sirena Bay are ideal.
One of the best ways of seeing the area is from the sky, and what better way to do so than being strapped to a parasail? It’s not for the faint-hearted, but being towed along behind a speedboat is an experience to try at least once. Besides the thrill, the views of Protaras are second to none – when you’re not being dunked in the sea, anyway!
If you're after some action during your holiday to Protaras, there is plenty to explore beyond the beach. Nestled between the lively resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras is the coastal area of Cape Greco, Cyprus' very own Land's End with spectacular sea cliffs, scenic nature trails and striking views over the Mediterranean sea. Culture vultures can explore the island's rural ruins at fascinating Famagusta or tick off the famous landmarks in the West, while adventure seekers can set off on a quad safari or hit the nearby waterpark!
Protaras is home to some buzzing bars, pubs and clubs, which are popular among families and friends looking for fun. The lane that runs parallel to the coastline is teeming with bars and restaurants including The Love Boat, offering karaoke and live music by famous DJs and Bliss Bar, perfect for enjoying a cocktail or two with good company.
