A Guide to Maldives Holidays

 Explore the Ocean

 Explore the Ocean

The Maldives’ isolated location in the Indian Ocean makes it the ideal place for sea-based fun such as snorkelling, diving and dolphin-watching.

Male Atoll is a great spot for people who love snorkelling. The clear blue, peaceful waters make it a great spot for snorkelling adventures, in fact it is recognised as one of the top places to explore the sea in the world!

Have you ever imagined getting up close and personal with sharks and manta rays? The Maldives offers you this thrilling opportunity. Known around the globe for its rich marine life, a must-do activity in the Maldives is mingling with sharks at Maafushi Island. An experience you’ll never forget, that’s for sure.

Cinnamon Hakuraa is a standout location in the Maldives, attracting visitors from across the world for a unique opportunity: dolphin watching. It has quickly become a must-do activity in the Maldives and is your chance to see these stunning creatures in the wild.

Luxury Activities

Luxury Activities

Treat yourself to a few weeks of luxury in one of the world’s most luxurious destinations.

Enjoy a helicopter ride and witness the surreal beauty of the stunning Maldives. Fly over the best beaches and marvel at the amazing views from above. Helicopter rides in the Maldives are often organized by private tour operators and hotels so it is easy to book one without leaving your resort.

The Maldives is famous for its overwater villas, and enjoying a stay in one is the very height of luxury. These villas, complete with all amenities, a large living area, an onsite restaurant, and all the services expected of a five-star hotel, cater to the needs of every visitor. Overlooking immaculate beaches, they offer a peaceful retreat making them the ideal choice for accommodation while in the Maldives.

If you enjoy shopping, then the Maldives is surprisingly a great option for your next escape. The Centro Mall features more than 30 top brands and is also perfect for kids as there are game zones to keep them entertained.

 Dry Season

 Dry Season

Dry season, or high season, is great for when you need some winter sun.

There are two distinct seasons in the Maldives, with dry – or high – season taking place from December to April.

The weather is driest at this time of year, and the humidity is at its lowest. The islands are popular with holidaymakers looking to catch some winter sun – temperatures average at a steady 30 degrees, ideal for catching some rays during the day.

The combination of the beautiful weather and distance from any large land mass means that the Maldives have some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving in the world, particularly in the dry season. So, it’s a great time to visit if you’re keen to see sea life and wish to explore the depths below.

Rainy Season

Rainy Season

The period from May to November in the Maldives is marked by the 'South West Monsoon,' or the rainy season.

Although tourism tends to dip during this time, the temperatures remain high, ensuring that the sea is warm enough for scuba diving. If you want to get a good deal, you’ll be able to find one at this time of year.

Occasional rainfalls offer the perfect opportunity to delve into the islands' exquisite spas, which blend traditional and local Maldivian therapies amidst stunning natural vistas.

Now is the time to enjoy spa rooms perched on stilts over lagoons, secluded retreats on private islands, and even the world's first underwater spa.

Getting Around Maldives

🚌 Transport in the Maldives Region

From the airport landing strip, you must use either boat or seaplane to reach your final destination. To get to Male you can catch a ferry – locally known as a dhoni. There are taxis in Male that are relatively cheap. Seaplanes are a great experience used to access atolls and speedboats are also an option. There is no bus service in the Maldives – with the exception of the capital of Male where they were introduced in 2011. The dhoni boats are the sea-based equivalent and are very cheap to use. Car hire isn’t required in the Maldives; some islands have minivans and golf buggies that can help you to get from A to B though, and Male has taxis and buses. Maldivians drive on the left-hand side.
