Differences In Resorts: Cyprus
THE BEST RESORTS IN CYPRUS FOR 2017
18 Feb 2017

Popular with Brits looking for some scorching summer sun and boasting balmy temperatures in early spring and late autumn, Cyprus is a much-loved holiday island in the heart of the Med, just off the coast of Turkey. With miles of beaches that lure in thousands of serious sun-worshippers each year, and more than enough culture, history, entertainment and fun attractions to go around, it’s no wonder Cyprus is often at the top of the family holiday charts. Which resort you choose on this gorgeous island will depend on what you’re hoping to gain from your Cypriot getaway – but whichever you settle for we're sure it'll be superb.

LIMASSOL

Perfect for: Fun-Loving Families

Limassol beach chairs and umbrellas on sand beach

Occupying prime position in the heart of the south coast, and boasting the Blue Flag Dasoudi Beach, Limassol is an incredibly popular holiday spot for plenty of good reasons. From the medieval Limassol Castle near the old town to the bang-up-to-date marina, the town centre and its surrounding areas are a hotpot of holiday activities for all to enjoy. Nestled between the two ancient cities of Amathus and Kourion, which bring plenty of historic sights to behold, Limassol is a perfect base for history and culture lovers who wish to soak up some of the past as well as enjoying the present in this exciting Cypriot region – and families who prefer to skip the history lesson will love Limassol zoo and the largest waterpark on the island, Fasouri Watermania.

LARNACA

Perfect for: Beach lovers

Larnaka sea beach resort holidays

Boasting a historic city of the same name and plenty of beach resorts, the region of Larnaca takes over much of the south-east coast of the island. The city itself has stacks of history, character and traditional charm, and its Blue Flag beaches are a major draw for relaxing days – including the popular Foinikoudes Beach and, if you’d prefer somewhere less crowded, Faros Beach, which is only 10 minutes away. If you venture a little further off the tourist track, you will find oodles of things to do that will keep your holiday filled with adventure, from the vast Salt Lake and pretty villages to diving the phenomenal MS Zenobia wreck that can be found just off the coast.

PROTARAS

Perfect for: Watersports Fanatics

Protaras colourful beach resort Cyprus

Sitting pretty at the eastern tip of the island, just a few minutes away from the buzzing nightlife hub of Ayia Napa, Protaras is home to a number of sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, making it a mecca for action seekers who love nothing more than trying a watersport (or several!). Bustling Fig Tree Bay is popular and it even has its own island that you can swim out to! Popular with families thanks to the slightly quieter nightlife scene, Protaras has plenty to offer all kinds of visitors. Plus, Cape Greco National Forest Park, home to some of the most beautiful sights on the island, is only 10 minutes away. The Protaras coastline has been set up with artificial reefs and wrecks too, so if you’re a diving enthusiast, this would be a perfect place to base yourself – especially Green Bay, which caters for complete beginners. AYIA NAPA

Perfect for: Party-Hard Groups and Beach Lovers

Nissi beach chairs and umbrellas Cyprus

As the clubbing capital of the island, it’s easy to think that Ayia Napa is all bars, clubs and late night raves. And in a way, you’d be right – it is a mecca for late-night revellers whose evenings aren’t complete without tequila slammers, buckets of foam and a glow stick or two. However, this sun-kissed resort – which shares the eastern side of the island with Protaras – offers much more than just booze, beach parties and banging tunes. The 14 Blue Flag beaches are incredible, and the pristine Cape Greco Nature Park, complete with caves to explore, is just around the corner. Plus, there’s an awesome (and massive!) waterpark which is perfect for all ages. Despite its reputation as a party resort, Ayia Napa is actually incredibly family friendly, even during the high season; with some beaches, like Sandy Beach and Nissi Beach, being perfect for kids who are happy digging for treasure in golden sands.

PAPHOS

Perfect for: History Lovers, Families and Keen Walkers

paphos-aphrodite-birthplace-beach

Found in the southwest of the island, Paphos is full to bursting with culture, history and traditional charm that history-buff holidaymakers will adore. It’s definitely the island’s main gateway to ancient times, with the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park (made up of UNESCO sites like the Tomb of the Kings and the House of Dionysus), the Temple of Aphrodite and a medieval castle within easy reach. The resort itself is made up of an ‘old town’ on a hilltop, as well as a modern marina where you can sit and watch the boats bob over a glass of wine or an ice-cream. And while the Blue Flag beach may be small, it’s got plenty of sunloungers and sandy spots, and the inviting Mediterranean waters are ideal for splashing around and paddling. If you’d like to splash around elsewhere though, the popular Aphrodite Waterpark is in the region. Or, if you prefer more natural attractions, the Akamas Peninsula is a perfect spot for a walk, and will allow you to soak up some of the stunning scenery that this rugged corner of Cyprus offers.
