Set on Spain's sun-kissed Costa Dorada, between serene La Pineda and antiquated Cambrils, is the lively resort of Salou – a perfect choice for a beach holiday with family, couples and friends. Within striking distance of Barcelona, Salou holidays are a great option for those looking for both sea and city fun. There's an abundance of things to do in Salou, with the region's biggest and best theme parks an easy drive away, however the resort's main pull is its sandy beaches, Playa Ponent and Playa Llevant – boasting shallow waters, entertainment, and nearby restaurants and bars for thrills and spills. Or, hit the nearby waterparks for flumes, wave machines and lazy rivers.

Although it's a year-round destination, it's best to visit Salou in the month of May to avoid any peak season scurries to the sand, or if you're planning family holidays in the summer, June and July are the hottest months with highs of 30°C. Holidays to Salou are great if you want to explore more of the Costa Dorada too, with the famous coastal path Camino de Ronda to discover, the picturesque Salou Lighthouse – offering gorgeous views of the natural landscape – and city sights to soak up in nearby town of Tarragona. For nightlife, head to Avinguda De Carles Buigas for live entertainment, restaurants and bars.

The Reus Airport is the nearest airport from Salou, which is just 10km away. With a long summer season and great sunbathing weather form early spring well into late October, Salou holidays offer the best of both worlds, with countless activities for adventurers and beach lovers alike.

    Salou Beaches

Like many Spanish cities, Salou rose in popularity due to its fantastic beaches. The harbour separates busy duo Playa Llevant from Playa Ponent, which leads to neighbouring resort, Cambrils. Both beaches are sandy, clean and boast a great choice of activities, including pedalo hire.

    Adventure

Salou is an adrenaline junkie’s paradise, with no less than three theme parks all within easy reach. Adrenaline Park is famous for its amazing go-kart track while PortAventura is one of Europe’s biggest theme parks with the thrills to match! If you like to splash as you scream, there’s also the Caribe and Aquapolis waterparks for a fun day out.

    Salou Nightlife

Perfectly located for trips to pretty Tarragona and vibrant Barcelona, your holiday can be a real two for one adventure. Tarragona makes a nice change of pace and a fun evening out, while Barcelona day trips or overnight stays are perfectly doable. Many of the bars and restaurants in Salou, such as Chaplin’s Bar, cater well to the fun-loving crowds who are out to let their hair down and dance the night away. There are plenty of British and Irish pubs and themed dinner shows to enjoy such as the House of Illusion. You can also sample a taste of Spain in restaurants like Hola Ola.

    Salou Festivals

Neighbouring Cambrils celebrates St Peter Festival in June, when the whole town comes out to sing and dance on the streets. While Tarragona has its own fiesta dedicated to Santa Tecla in September, where you'll experience decked out streets hosting a lively parade. For a feast of flowers, head to Sitges for its Corpus Christi Flower Fest, where residents create intricate and beautiful floral patterns on the roads.
