Cheap Chania Holidays and Deals

Chania (Crete)
Overview

Located on the northwest coast of Crete, Chania (pronounced as Hania) is not only the second largest city of this Greek island, but also one of the prettiest. Chania holidays are brimming with classic Greek character and contemporary charm and the region’s bustling harbours and beaches make for a perfect Crete holiday in the sunshine. Being well away from the busier resorts of Malia, Chania has a laid-back character that's great for quieter holidays. The fact it has its own airport means that holidaymakers can be lounging poolside or sinking their toes into the sand within 20 minutes after leaving the airport, too.

With a great range of hotels and beaches, holidays to Chania can be tailor-made to suit a variety of groups, families and budgets. The old town is complete with a Venetian port, Turkish mosque and waterfront fortress-turned-museum. There’s a lot to do for adventure-seekers and sun-seekers on holidays to Chania! Enjoy the crystal-clear waters on Falassarna, Balos and Pahia Ammos beaches and cruise to picturesque coves and bays on a day trip from the harbour. Try your hand at surfing on Elafonissi beach, explore the vibrant landscape and hike up the Samaria gorge (the longest ravine in Europe), visit stunning Lake Kourna or venture to the neighbouring resorts and villages for a taste of real Cretan life.

Chania is also a party town, buzzing with cafes, restaurants, bars, discos and nightclubs. Savour Cretan specialities like kaltsounia (cheese pie), gamopilafo (Cretan wedding rice), chochlioi boubouristi (fried snails) or smoked pork at popular restaurants such as Dinos, Akroyiali or Karnayio. Finish your day with a drink at El Mondo Bar in old harbour.

Getting Around

Car hire and bus or private transfers are all easy options from Chania airport. If you’re planning to stay in the city of Chania itself, it’s probably not worth braving the traffic, but for those who want the freedom to explore the area independently, car hire is a good option. Taxis are widely available and there’s a good bus service in the area too.

Agioi Apostoloi beach

The city's popular sandy beach is fringed with lively tavernas and cafes, but if you fancy a break from the crowds, the stunning Agioi Apostoloi beach is only a twenty-minute walk out of town. Beach hopping is a breeze due to the bus service travelling from Chania town along the coast to the village of Kalamaki, so you can lay your towel on them all!

Bungee Jump in Chania

Braveheart's can get their blood pumping and bungee jump off Aradena bridge, plunging 138 metres into a gap in the tropical gorge below. The bridge is the second highest in Europe and is located 85km from Chania. A slightly closer and equally as popular jump can be found at Rethymnon, near Sfakia.
