Cheap Holidays to Malia

If Spain has Ibiza, Greece has Malia to rival it. Holidays to Malia, in Crete, offer world-class nightlife and bustling beaches to match. Summers are perfect for a swim in the warm azure waters; Potomas beach is popular with laid-back sunbathers while Glozaine beach is great for watersports lovers.

The lively resort, 12km away from nearest resort Hersonissos, is popular with the 18-30s crowd so if bars and beaches are your bag, Malia holidays are unbeatable. The young crowd finds it a nice, safe and affordable beach destination that's close to home, with an abundance of activities and entertainment on offer. Big nights out are often followed by long lazy days by the pool or beach - for the full Malia experience visit from April and October (average 20°C) when Malia is hot and happening with busy beaches and full of verve!

It's not all about partying from sunset until sunrise, though. Malia holidays are great for families too, with historic highlights including a visit to the ancient Minoan Palace, plus a day trip to the Heraklion region, boasting Venetian Fortresses and 19th Century Mosques. Equally, explore the traditional towns, laze on the beaches, pick up souvenirs on Beach Road, or go on a Land Rover Safari.

Sample the fresh earthy flavours of Greek food during Malia holidays —fresh, light and absolutely delicious. Try mayirefta or the fresh catch of seafood from popular places like Taverna Kalyva to Stablos and Elisabeth. In the evenings carry cotton or linen garments and a light jacket if there is a slight chill.

A Guide to Malia Holidays

Visit Top Beaches like Central

Visit Top Beaches like Central

Malia boasts a great choice of sandy beaches lined with shops and bars. The main attraction is the central beach, which is where Malia’s tourists go to sunbathe and snooze off the excesses of the night before. If you can manage to get up early the beaches can be surprisingly quiet before the party people surface!

Malia Nightlife

The music’s pounding and the drinks are cheap along Malia’s Strip. Reflex Bar is a great choice for 80s nostalgia but if you fancy something a bit more sophisticated, Drossia Cocktail Bar is a good choice. Clubs are ten a penny but Apollo and Candy Club are a good way to discover the delights of Malia’s nightlife.

Zoom through little known villages and lush landscapes via rough and ready dirt tracks where you can catch a glimpse of local Cretan life and view its natural beauty's up-close.

On the main beach, Dolphin Watersports is the place to head for all your jet skiing, water skiing, banana boat, parasailing and pedalo needs. Malia Booze Cruise is the way to go when you want to party on the high seas - their slogan is ‘what happens in Malia stays in Malia.’ Waterparks like Watercity are within easy reach too.

Getting Around Malia

🚌 Transport in the Malia Region

Malia is about 40km from Heraklion airport. It’s easy to get a bus or pre-book a taxi into the resort. Car hire is also widely available in resort and from the airport but if you’re planning a week or two of clubbing and chilling there is no real need as Malia and its amenities are easily located on foot. Taxis are available to take you around the resort if you require.

Travelling by bus or car Malia is well served by Crete’s bus service, with routes to Heraklion airport and sightseeing spots around the island. Check online or with the tourist information office in Malia for up to date schedules. The drive from the airport is quick and fairly straightforward but if you’re here to party you probably won’t need a car! If you do drive, stick to the right-hand side.
