Holidays to Puerto de Santiago (commonly called Puerto Santiago) will be relaxed and low-key. This resort town isn’t as hustling and bustling as other tourist spots in Tenerife, instead you’ll find quaint beachfront hotels, rustic towns and rural hiking trails.

Puerto de Santiago is located on a hilly terrain which provides stunning views of the ocean and many hiking opportunities – ideal for nature lovers. Head north to Los Gigantes - a resort town known for its incredible natural beauty – just a 20-minute walk away for a great day out; the resort gets its name from the stunning, gigantic, hills it is surrounded by. Similarly, head to neighbouring resort Playa de Arena during your Puerto de Santiago holidays, located to the south of the resort, offering a gorgeous Blue Flag Beach, volcanic-inspired walks in nearby popular Teide National Park and trips to the capital, Santa Cruz.

With a vast history of fishing and maritime exploration, there are many old buildings and heritage sights to see in the area which will make for a very cultural holiday indeed. Book a guided tour or speak to the local merchants for stories on the town’s long history. Beautiful sunsets over the hills and lazy days on the beach await on Puerto de Santiago holidays, fabulous for groups, couples and families.

Places to go and things to do in Puerto Santiago

Blue Flag Beaches

Blue Flag Beaches

The beach at Puerto de Santiago may be on the small side but boasts beautiful views of the hills and striking black volcanic sand. The mighty Atlantic Ocean is a sight to behold but must be respected as the waves and currents can get strong! A flag system is in place so it’s important to get familiar with it to enjoy the water safely. The highly popular Playa la Arena is a short walk away, so if you fancy a change of pace take your towel and enjoy the atmosphere on the neighbouring beach there. Renowned for being clear and clean, this cosy yet beautiful beach has been awarded a Blue Flag.

Three For One

You’ll be surrounded by hills during your stay in Puerto Santiago, which is located close to two other resorts: Los Gigantes and Playa de la Arena - often considered a tri-city of sorts. Ravines separate the three locations and if you choose to walk the scenic terrains there will be a lot of uphill and downhill action. The convenient placement of these villages gives you more to explore, meaning three times the food, three times the culture and three times the wine – whoops! All of the locations are equally as quiet and chilled, so you’ll be able to have a peaceful time wherever you wander to.

Soak Up The Sights

While the southern part of Tenerife is known for its party atmosphere, Puerto de Santiago is definitely more on the quiet side. Perfect for more mature groups who wish to take in the sights and local culture. Explore the maritime architecture, take in the colourful fishing boats and indulge in some quiet time, reading a book in a cafe or sipping on a cocktail. Book a fishing trip that’ll take you out to sea and let you discover more of the surrounding resort, passing quaint coves as you go. For more views of the stunning terrain, book a tour guide which will let you see the volcanic cliffs in all their glory. If your idea of a perfect holiday is a serene atmosphere, gorgeous views and lots of time for yourself then this is the place for you.

Vibrant Nightlife

The nightlife is most certainly not wild, loud and relentless. Instead, a slew of chilled restaurants and bars is scattered around town offering delicious food and drinks and a definite lack of boisterous crowds. Puerto de Santiago is perfect for those holidaymakers who want nothing more than to experience the local atmosphere in all its glory. Try some traditional tapas and enjoy a chilled glass of Spanish wine at one of the many restaurants. As it’s a fishing village it’s important to try the fresh seafood. Don’t expect a late one as there’s not a mass of clubs or a strip of bars, instead you’ll find cool bars serving delicious drinks where you can mingle with the locals and tourists alike.
