I’m Laura Hamilton. I am a Travel and Property Expert and possibly known to some of you as one of the presenters from Channel 4’s ‘A Place in The Sun’.  On average I am abroad at least two weeks a month, and when possible with my two young Rocco and Tahlia in tow. I have travelled with my children since they were both 3 weeks old and I’m passionate about finding travel products to make the experience easier, and of course finding the best family hotels and destinations to visit to enrich our time together.

Cyprus Holidays

With a three-week holiday off school over the Easter school holidays, I decided to book a family holiday to Cyprus for one of them.  Cyprus is a country I have visited a handful of times both for work and family holidays. I’ve previously found it a country that caters well for families with young children. Lots of restaurants have great play areas and they happily welcome young visitors. During the month of April, the temperature is usually in the early 20’s so the climate is perfect.

On this occasion, we decided to book our trip with Teletext Holidays to the Amathus Beach Hotel in Limassol. I had read some great reviews about it online and I particularly liked that there was a specific dining area catering for children, some waterslides, a kid’s club with a weekly program of activities and also an adult only area that my husband Alex and I could relax in, feeling comfortable that the children would be well looked after and having a great time.

Teletext Holidays arranged everything for us from flights, accommodation and transfers. We took a 4.5-hour flight from London’s Heathrow and touched down in Larnaca. As soon as we landed we were impressed. Amathus Beach Hotel is around 45 minutes from Larnaca airport. It's considered to be one of the best hotels to visit in Cyprus and as we were greeted by the staff at the reception with the beautiful floral display we were extremely excited to be staying there for the week.

Although we had original booked a family suite, we decided on arrival to upgrade ourselves to one of the 9 family pool suites. It was exactly the same size as the normal family suite inside with a large double bed and a sofa bed for the children to share, but it had a lot more outside space; with a private pool and direct access to the beautiful, extremely well-manicured gardens and beach. The children were so excited and typically wanted to put their swimming costumes on and dive straight in.

The Amathus Beach Hotel is absolutely perfect for families. They have thought of everything, from buckets and spades and a play area on the family beach. The children’s dining corner with nutritious choices didn’t disappoint and after the children had eaten it was possible for Alex and I to order from the Al La Carte menu and dining watching them enjoy themselves on the well-manned waterslides.  The hotel has two further restaurants to choose from; the buffet restaurant ‘Calypso’ and the fine dining restaurant ‘The Grill’ which serves some amazing smoked beef carpaccio and grilled lobster. We did opt to dine out a few nights too, once to a traditional Cypriot restaurant called Kipriakon in the Marina in Limassol and then to an amazing fish restaurant called Puesta that is highly recommended by locals and is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel along the promenade.

If a decent gym is high on your list of priorities at a family hotel, then the gym at the Amathus Beach Hotel is quite possibly one of the best I have seen. I used it three times during the week and I liked the look of their morning yoga class, although unfortunately I wasn’t ever up early enough to go to it! What Alex and I did manage to enjoy (whilst the children were busy making cookies at the Kids Club), were some wonderful spa treatments. The traditional head massage was my favourite which included a neck and shoulder massage too. The relaxation area is really nice with complimentary fruit teas, and the steam and sauna overlooking the salt water indoor pool is a nice place to spend an hour or so too.

The Amathus Beach Hotel Limassol was absolutely perfect for our family holiday. We all came away feeling refreshed, relaxed and happy. We could have easily spent an extra few days there and highly recommend it if you are looking for a wonderful family holiday in Cyprus.
