Surely one of the biggest tourist magnets and a must-visit is the city's vibrant souk. This colourful warren of shops and stalls is an intoxicating mix of spice sellers, stalls selling slippers, rugs, pashminas and beautiful handicrafts.

Make your way through the middle of the medina and pick up a bargain or two as you haggle over handicrafts sitting pretty on the stalls.

The Medina is the biggest draw for shoppers, and an intoxicating experience like no other.

Away from the bustle of the markets, many of the city's shops showcase creative designs and French-inspired clothing and accessories, thanks to the city's rather cool connection to Yves Saint Laurent - the cult designer owned an electric-blue villa and its verdant gardens, Jardin Majorelle, is open to the public.

At boutiques like Art/C, Akbar Delights, Lalla and Marrakshi Life, you can shop for some innovative designs, robes, handbags, shoes and exquisite embroidery.

Getting Around Marrakech

The bus network is slightly unpredictable. Petits taxis are abundant and ideal for short journeys; make sure you ask drivers to turn the meter on though! The main sights are easy to get around by foot, and caleches – horse-drawn carriages – are available. Bicycles are a great way to see the sights, and great fun!   Car hire in Marrakech is available but roads can be hectic. If you’re not a confident driver, you may wish to hire a driver, or use the taxis. Drive on the right.

Passports and Visas

Visas aren’t required if you’re a British Citizen, but you will need to ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your holiday and stamped upon entry into Morocco.
