Why go to Arrecife?

Lanzarote's capital is not the bustling hub one might expect. In fact, its small, agreeable, south-coast city vibes make Arrecife the ideal destination for families and solo-travellers alike.

Marrying the best of both worlds, Arrecife holidays offer stretches of sandy coastline with a surprisingly eclectic range of unpretentious bars, shopping streets and restaurants of all varieties. Arrecife has noticeably not been built for tourism. Instead, holidays to Arrecife are a great way to get a glimpse of real working life on the island of Lanzarote.

Take time to explore its sights, which include: castles, a pretty saltwater lagoon, an art gallery and several César Manrique creations. Get lost in the narrow backstreets around the church and lagoon, which are the most photogenic areas of this little capital.

Lanzarote is famously home to Timanfaya National Park, which takes just 30 minutes to reach from Arrecife, making Arrecife holidays great for adventure lovers, too!

The public buses are a cheap way for visitors to explore the island, but most holidaymakers tend to use taxis and hire cars as they offer that extra flexibility during your stay. There are numerous cycling and hiking trails for the more adventurous or daily boat services hopping between each island too.

Travelling by bus or carThere are comfortable, air conditioned buses which leave regularly from most of the main resorts and stop at the island’s most famous attractions. The smaller, local buses are slightly less reliable. Hiring a car is cheap, easy and highly recommended.
