Situated on the southern coast of Gran Canaria is the sun-kissed resort of Meloneras. Blessed with golden beaches, stunning views of the Atlantic and a plethora of stylish restaurants and bars, holidays to Meloneras are all about embracing the warmth of year-round sunshine and the all-natural beauty of the Canaries. Quieter than its boisterous cousin, Las Palmas, there are plenty of things to do in Meloneras - from relaxing on unspoilt beaches, to exploring historical buildings, wandering the bustling capital and indulging in lively nightclubs.
Meloneras has a 500-metre coastline that's flanked by inviting blue waters and an expansive promenade, which you can wander as the sun sets and indulge in a variety of fresh seafood restaurants, cocktail bars and seafront shops. Blending into Meloneras' golden sands is Maspalomas beach, which boasts spectacular dunes you can explore by camel back, or for a change of pace the lively beach resort of Playa del Ingles is just 10-minutes to reach by car.
Swap coastline for culture in the capital of Las Palmas. Steeped in rich Catalan history, Las Palmas is just an hour from the bustling beach resort and worth a visit if ancient buildings and alluring sites are your bag. The grand Gothic cathedral of Santa Ana and the quaint building of Casa de Colon (where Christopher Columbus is supposed to have lived), are two iconic must-see sites during your Meloneras holidays. If you're visiting with the family, keep the kids entertained at the nearby Taurito waterpark, step back in time on a pirate boat trip, or explore the island on a 4x4 safari and camel tour – better still, this Canary Island can be visited all-year round so grab a last minute holiday today!
Meloneras' 500m stretch of golden sand is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the balmy weather. If you’re not a fan of lounging around there’s plenty to keep you entertained, too. Explore the dunes of neighbouring Maspalomas by camelback, sail out to sea on a pedalo or potter along the buzzing promenade.
Keep the kids occupied at one of the largest waterparks in the Canaries! Aqualand is just a 10-minute drive away from the resort and its thrilling chutes and slides will entertain the young and young at heart. If you're not a fan of flumes, stick to the lazy rapids instead!
Enjoy some evening entertainment at Gran Canaria's glamarous gala cabaret show, Garbo's. You'll enjoy a slap-up meal, sparkling costumes and being serenaded by sequin-clad singers! If you want to continue the party into the early hours, neighbouring Playa del Ingles is the place to be. This lively resort has plenty of bars and club to keep you going all night – Pacha is a popular choice among partygoers.
Fancy something a little different? Fataga is nestled in a charming valley just 30-minutes from Playa del Ingles and is surrounded by rural houses, pretty craft shops and stunning scenery. The adventurous will enjoy a 4x4 SUV tour of the scenic valley across bumpy roads and hills. Take time to try the farming fruits, cheese and wine in this traditional Canarian village.
