If you fancy soaking up the sun au naturel, check out our list of where to find the best nudist beaches abroad and you can plan for the ultimate all-over tan. We’ve got the bare necessities covered so you can, well – uncover. Whether it's strip-friendly stretches or full on clothes-free resorts you’re after, you’ll find plenty of fabulous beach holidays where ‘birthday suit’ is the dress code, below.
MASPALOMAS BEACH, GRAN CANARIA
Maspalomas Beach isn’t only famous for its Saharan-sized dunes, but for its swimsuit-less sunbathers too. This gorgeous stretch in Gran Canaria is one of the most popular beaches in the area and its location to nearby party-town Playa del Ingles makes it all the more inviting. Stroll towards the dunes and you’ll soon find the nudist section, with hundreds of topless tanners dotted along the front. If you prefer a more discreet naturist beach, Montana de Arena beach is just a bus ride away. Better still, the balmy year-round temperatures make Gran Canaria a perfect winter sun holiday destination, so you can swap the woolies for, well - nothing!
ES TRENC, MAJORCA
Es Trenc’s sandy shoreline is admired for being the largest natural beach in Majorca and thanks to its pretty national park location, it seems sure to remain free from high-rise hotels and bustling seafront restaurants. The bright white sands are met by dazzling blue waters and there are dozens of luxury boats, catamarans and yachts drifting elegantly across the sea. Most people spend their Majorca holidays fully suited, however in the central area of the beach you’ll find bikini-less bathers alongside several other marked sections, making this one of the best nudist beaches abroad.
GRANDE SALINE BEACH, ST BARTS
If you fancy kicking back Caribbean style, Grande Saline Beach in St Barts is the best spot on the island. This spectacular white-sand bay ticks all of the boxes when it comes to tropical beaches, with dazzling turquoise waters and swaying palms that exude natural beauty. However, it’s safe to say that Saline’s nude sunbathing has certainly helped put this stretch on the map. While Caribbean naturism is mostly frowned upon here, this beach encourages bathers to sport nothing but their birthday suits – although it’s best to re-dress before heading for a bite to eat at the nearby restaurants and bars!
GUVANO, ITALY
If you're looking for some fun on your holidays to Italy, located near the quaint village of Corniglia in the gorgeous Cinque Terre region is Guvano Beach, an isolated stretch of shoreline populated by naked Italians – bellissimo! This secret stretch is quite the contrast to the Riviera’s tourist-packed beaches, but certainly worth the short trek it takes to reach it. You’ll pass through a pitch-black tunnel in the rugged mountain edge, but will be rewarded by a rather cosy section of the coast.
PLAKIAS BEACH, CRETE
Plakias Beach is one of the biggest and most beautiful in Crete, framed by rugged cliffs and mountains with turquoise waters lapping at the shore. Nude bathers mainly occupy the eastern edge of this sandy stretch, where parasols and refreshments are available during season. Plus a 15-minute walk will take you to the resort’s colourful town full of shops, tavernas and idyllic olive grove trails – be sure to pop your top back on if you want to explore though.
VALALTA BEACH, CROATIA
If you consider yourself a nature lover, this popular nudist beach and campsite makes Croatia a holiday haven you simply have to visit. Valalta Beach was established in the 1960s and offers a tranquil escape amid lush olive trees and vineyards, but the major draw has to be its 150m sandy beach – complete with swimming pools and secluded coves. If you’re into nautical tourism (in the nude, of course), Valalta Marina is the first harbour of its kind in the Adriatic and offers visitors and a variety of facilities for a pleasant stay.
PRAIA DO PINHO, BRAZIL
If you’re searching for the best and barest beach in Brazil, Praia do Pinho is the place. Considered to be the first naturist beach in the country, getting your kit off here is pretty much compulsory – so be sure on stripping before you commit! The soft golden sands are backed by lush, rugged mountains giving it a safe and secluded feel, plus there are fantastic facilities available to keep you entertained whether you're on cosy couples holidays or a fun family break.
HIDDEN BEACH, MEXICO
Anything with the word ‘hidden’ in it immediately appeals to those looking for nude holidays. Hidden beach is the only 5 star adults-only nudist resort in Mexico, so if you’re looking to go swimsuit-less in style, this all-inclusive retreat is the place to do so. Located in Kantenah Bay in the Riviera Maya, this resort has a unique beachfront swimming pool, hot tub and lazy river, not to mention sumptuous spa treatments, exotic gardens and gourmet restaurants too. And guess what, you can enjoy all of its fantastic facilities in the nude! With lively Playa del Carmen just 25 minutes away you’ll have plenty to keep you occupied outside of the resort, too.
CAP D'ADGE BEACH, FRANCE
If you’re having trouble finding that perfect Cape Verde nude beach (there isn’t much a nudist scene on these Atlantic islands) then our suggestion would be to head to the Cap D’Adge beach in France. This world famous naturist resort has certainly made its name as one of our French Fancies – and for good reason. The wide sandy beach is ideal for sunbathing and swimming, but if you want to bare all beyond the beach you can. The quaint town is nude-friendly meaning you can sightsee, shop and even dine without worrying about what to wear! Unsurprisingly, this is a very popular spot for nude holidays.
HAULOVER BEACH, MIAMI
Over one million sun-seekers flock to Florida’s best nude beach every year and once you’ve stepped foot on this pristine white-sand stretch, you’ll see why. Haulover Beach Park maintains a family-friendly vibe with plenty of attractions and amenities to keep you entertained, from spectacular sand dunes to watersports. If you have no desire to dispose of your swimsuit, don’t worry, the north end of the beach is clearly marked as clothing-optional so you shouldn’t get any surprises elsewhere along the stretch.
