Croatia Travel Guide

Croatia has been a popular tourist destination for Brits since the late 1990’s and gets even more popular each year that goes by. A large part of Croatia’s appeal comes from its vast coastline. The coast stretches out for more than 1,700 kilometres and has over 1,180 islands that float off the shores.

Then there are the many historical sites to visit, you could run yourself into the ground in Split and Dubrovnik alone, working your way around the likes of the Old Town walls and Diocletian's Palace. In fact, the historic centres of Split and Dubrovnik are UNESCO world heritage sites, as are the cathedrals in both Trogir and Sibenik and the basilica in Porec.

If you are thinking of embarking on a cheap Croatia holiday this year, take a look at our handy travel guide to make sure you know the inside scoop.
Language
Croatian, obviously, but don’t worry English is widely spoken.
Passport and visas
British citizens don’t need a visa to enter Croatia but must have a valid passport. Visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/croatia/entry-requirements for the latest requirements.
Time difference
Croatia is one hour ahead of the UK.
Flight time
Between 2 hours 30mins and 3 hours from the UK depending on which airport you fly from in the UK.
Currency
The Croatian Kuna is the local currency so make sure you either stock up before you get to the airport or when in Croatia.
Best time to travel

If you looking for sun and beach then the best time to take a holiday here is between middle of May and early October. At this time of year, temperatures on the coast and around the islands range from the mid-twenties to the low thirties. Croatia city breaks can be taken all year round.

Things to do
A five island speedboat tour is a must. The tours depart from either Split or from the small village of Trogir. The speedboats set off first thing in the morning and the trip lasts for around 10-12 hours (more or less all day). You will get to visit Blue Cave situated on Bisevo Island, Stiniva which is a small bay on the island of Vis, Hvar town which is on Hvar Island, the beautiful Blue Lagoon on Budikovac Island and Paklinski islands which is a small group of islands around Hvar.

If you are staying in or around Dubrovnik and are looking for a good adrenaline rush then I suggest the Dubrovnik countryside and arboretum all-terrain vehicle ride tour. This fun tour takes you through the beautiful landscape of Dubrovnik's countryside where you will see the incredible medieval architecture and enjoy the most stunning panoramic views. If you enjoy water sports then a guided kayaking tour in Dubrovnik is something you must do.  You get to paddle a kayak around the medieval walls and across the channel to the waters near Lokrum Island, you also get to swim and snorkel at a popular but isolated beach-cave on the mainland.

Finally, my favourite thing to do is the Old Town food tour, here you get a taste authentic Adriatic cuisine on this tour, through Dubrovnik’s spectacular Old Town. The tour itself lasts roughly 3-4 hours and is ideal when you have had enough of lying in the sun all morning.
