Fuerteventura has a habit of surprising people.
A lot of travellers book it thinking they’re getting a simple fly-and-flop beach holiday… then end up talking about it for months afterwards. One minute you’re stretched out on a beach that looks almost Caribbean, the next you’re eating fresh seafood in a sleepy little town or bouncing across the sea on a boat trip to a tiny island nearby.
It’s sunny, easy-going and never feels overly hectic which is exactly why so many people fall in love with it.
If you’re planning a trip for summer or winter, here are some of the best tourist attractions in Fuerteventura.
Corralejo Dunes – The “Wait… This Is Spain?” Moment
The Corralejo dunes are the kind of place that make you pull your phone out immediately.
Massive waves of soft white sand roll right down to bright blue water, and it genuinely doesn’t feel like Europe. The best part is how huge the area is, you can wander for ages, find your own quiet patch of beach and completely switch off for a few hours.
The drive through the dunes is half the fun too. Windows down, sun blasting, music on… proper holiday mode.
Once you’ve had your beach fix, Corralejo itself is packed with bars, little restaurants and seafront spots perfect for a sunset cocktail.
El Cotillo – For Slow Mornings & Sunset Dinners
If Corralejo is the lively one, El Cotillo is its cooler, calmer cousin.
People come here for the quieter beaches, the little seafood restaurants and those evenings where you suddenly realise you’ve spent three hours watching the sun go down without checking your phone once.
The lagoons around El Cotillo are perfect if you prefer calm water over waves, and the whole place has a much slower pace to it. No rushing around. No massive crowds. Just sunshine, sea views and a very strong temptation to order “just one more” cocktail.
Honestly, it’s one of those places that ends up becoming people’s favourite part of Fuerteventura holidays.
Isla de Lobos – Tiny Island, Big Holiday Energy
Just off the coast from Corralejo sits Isla de Lobos — a tiny island that’s ideal for a day trip when you fancy escaping the main resorts for a few hours.
The ferry only takes around 20 minutes, but it feels like stepping into a completely different world. Think clear water, dusty walking trails and little hidden swimming spots that look almost unreal in the sunshine.
Some people hike around the island, others snorkel or just lay out a towel and disappear for the afternoon.
It’s peaceful, ridiculously pretty and one of the best things you can do if you want a break from hotel life.
Cofete Beach – Wild in the Best Possible Way
Cofete feels completely different to the rest of Fuerteventura. Getting there involves winding roads through huge mountain scenery, but once you arrive, you’re met with an enormous stretch of sand and waves that seem to go on forever.
There’s barely anything around — and that’s exactly why people love it. No beach clubs. No loud music. No rows of sunbeds packed together. Just sea, sand and that feeling you’ve discovered somewhere most people never properly see.
It’s the kind of place where you stand there for five minutes just taking it all in.
Surfing, Boat Trips & Getting Out on the Water
Even if you’ve never stepped on a surfboard before, Fuerteventura makes you want to try.
You’ll spot surfers all over the island, especially around Corralejo and El Cotillo, and there are loads of beginner-friendly lessons if you fancy giving it a go.
Not into surfing? No problem.
Boat trips are massive here too. You can head out on catamaran cruises, dolphin-spotting tours or lazy afternoon sailings where the main activity is basically “sit in the sun and relax”.
Which, to be honest, sounds ideal!
Ajuy Caves – Worth Leaving the Sunbed For
The Ajuy Caves are one of those places that don’t always make the front of holiday brochures but absolutely should. You start in a tiny seaside village with a black-sand beach, then follow a coastal path with sea views the whole way before reaching huge caves carved into the cliffs.
The walk itself is easy and makes a nice change from beach days, especially if you want to see another side of the island.
Plus, the photos always look good afterwards — which is obviously important.
Oasis Wildlife – A Lifesaver for Family Holidays
If you’re travelling with kids, Oasis Wildlife is a very good idea.
It’s part animal park, part botanical gardens, and it’s big enough to fill an entire day without hearing “I’m bored” every ten minutes.
There are animal experiences, tropical gardens and loads of shaded spots to cool off in when the afternoon heat kicks in.
It’s also a nice way to break up the classic holiday routine of:
Pool → lunch → pool → dinner → repeat.
Why People Keep Going Back
The thing about holidays to Fuerteventura is that it’s easy.
Easy weather. Easy beaches. Easy atmosphere.
Nothing feels too rushed or overdone, which is probably why so many people end up going back again and again.
You can spend your whole holiday doing absolutely nothing… or fill it with boat trips, beach-hopping, surfing and exploring little towns.
Either way, it’s one of those places that just makes switching off feel effortless.
And once you’re sat watching the sunset with warm evenings, salty sea air and absolutely nowhere else you need to be… you’ll get why people love it so much.
