LANZAROTE

There are a number of excellent family hotels in resorts like Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise, and despite the island’s upmarket feel, Lanzarote holidays are very competitively priced. 

Along with an average year-round temperate of 22°C and a reasonably short flight from the UK (a doable four hours even with toddlers), there’s also a wide range of fun attractions and things to do for kids in Lanzarote. Not only is there no time difference but there’s also the promise of year-round sun and very little rain. There are also quiet seas for splashing around and a sophisticated range of hotels that offer childcare on-site. 

If you want a change of scene, grab your hiking boots and explore the vibrant landscape or grab your baby pack and head up Mount Teide in the island’s wild interior. Or, if the kids are a bit older, Tenerife holidays are a great way to treat them to a week of back-to-back waterparks. MAJORCA

Majorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, has been a favourite holiday destination for families for many years thanks to a reliable combination of good weather, affordability, excellent beaches and family-friendly resorts. As well as providing plenty of sunshine in the summer months, it is also blessed with fine weather into autumn that makes it an excellent destination for October half-term with temperatures of 20°C and above. 

There are also a host of attractions for children of all ages. A boat trip to Cabrera Island National Park off the south coast of Majorca is the perfect way to spend the day. You can hike up to the 14^th-century castle and enjoy superb views of Majorca before heading to Sa Plageta beach to cool off. There’s also a secret world to be discovered in the dark chambers of Arta Caves, with caverns as big as cathedrals and stalagmites and stalactites wherever you look. For new swimmers, the blue flag beach of Playa de Muro with its shallow waters is the perfect spot for safe, family-friendly bathing.
