Cheap Holidays to Blanes

Often cited as ‘the gateway to Costa Brava’, Blanes is a small but diverse town around 60km Northeast from Barcelona. Holidays to Blanes include a plethora of hidden beaches, high cliffs, and one of Europe’s most esteemed botanical gardens. Blanes holidays will also welcome you to local markets, coffee shops, and authentic Spanish cuisine, except for between 1-5pm… which is siesta time!

Singles and families alike will enjoy Blanes holidays, with watersports like scuba diving, sailing, and fishing being a way of life in this pretty port town. Plus football, squash, tennis and more for those who prefer to keep their feet on dry land. For those who simply want to rest up and recharge on their Blanes holidays, we recommend some cultural trips such as the Santa Maria Church or the Castle of St Joan, which towers over Blanes.

Despite its origin being over 2,000 years old, Blanes has kept its old-timey charm about it, and whilst there is plenty of accommodation being developed recently, these are mostly low-rise and don’t affect the rustic quality of the town’s views. Classed as a fabulous family holiday destination, this Costa resort has a busy bustle but no tacky plastic souvenir shops in sight. A Blanes holiday is remembered by the warmth of the welcome, as well as the weather.

A Guide to Blanes Holidays

Marimurtra Botanical Gardens

Marimurtra Botanical Gardens

Flaunting over 4,000 species of flora, from five continents, the Jardi Marimurtra Botanical Garden has developed into one of the most important biological gardens in Europe. Founded by German botany lover Karl Faust in the early 1900’s and still under private ownership, Marimurtra offers more than your standard botanical garden; it has a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea and the cliffs of the Costa Brava.

Brave San Juan

Brave San Juan

Dominating the skyline of Blanes, San Juan is ever present on your holiday. San Juan is a steep climb that will take you around 30 minutes; take plenty of water with you as there are no amenities en route, and then drink in the landscape view from the top. There is also castle ruins and a functioning church to explore, and a great chance to see some of Blanes’ more opulent homes.

Fun For Families

Fun For Families

Make family memories and let kids blow off steam in Park Fransesc Macia; a play park with swings, slides, and then some. Watch the locals play boules, and truly relax within the high walls that give the park a private garden feel. Sculptures dotted all over include croissants, ducks, and boots - how many can you spot? Located just minutes from local supermarkets, why not grab some snacks and enjoy a picnic.

Blanes Beaches

There's a selection of stretches to choose from based on your preference, whether you want to bask on the bustling Blue Flag stretch in the town centre, or relax on the secluded stretch of Sant Francesc nearby - you're sure to find something that suits the whole family. With a fair share of restaurants, bars and shops fringing the main beach, you'll be set for the day.

Getting Around Blanes

🚌 Transport in the Blanes Region

Blanes is 85km from Barcelona airport, and only 33km from Girona. Trains run every 30 minutes from the city, but taxis are available too. However, once you’re there and settled, nothing beats a stroll down the promenade or cycling around town to really absorb the scenery.

Travelling by bus or carBuses run regularly around the town, shuttling guests to and from the local attractions safely and reliably. Cars and motorbikes are easy choices with over 1,000 free parking spaces in the city centre and most tourist spots having specified parking zones.
Passports and Visas

Spain requires you to have a passport that remains in-date for 3 months after your planned visit, and one with at least two blank pages. If you are a British Citizen or have a Right To Abode then you do not need to apply for a visa, unless you are planning to stay longer than 90 days.

Health and Safety

There are currently no official travel advisories or warnings regarding Spain or Blanes specifically, but we always remind travellers to exercise general precautions. Spanish water is drinkable, but we still recommend buying bottled as different ratios of chlorine may upset a foreign stomach.

Vaccinations

You don’t need vaccinations to holiday in Spain but your routine jabs should to be up to date. See your GP before your holiday for any specific medical advice.
