Praia da Rocha holidays are a fantastic choice for families and couples craving brilliant beaches, pretty coves and fabulous restaurants, all of which are within easy reach when you stay in this pleasant Algarve resort town. Praia da Rocha, close to the town of Portimão, boasts arguably the Algarve's most beautiful beach with vast swathes of golden sand running the entire length of the town, fringed by stunning cliffs resplendent in their burnt orange hues.
Hire paddle boards from the beach and head over to pretty Ferragudo on a water taxi, or soak up the sights on a boat cruise along the coast – holidays in Praia da Rocha are paradise whether you want to set out on the water or simply lounge peacefully, beside it. The well-established resort has an array of attractions for families, friends and couples to enjoy, with Praia da Rocha beach offering volleyball and watersports, while little ones can play safely in the shallows. The waterfront restaurants, upmarket hotels, great-value resorts and elegant marina also give the whole resort a characterful, welcoming feel. For particularly tempting Portuguese cuisine and cocktails on the beach, head to the marina's renowned NoSoloAgua restaurant and bar - ideal for a snack at sunset.
Potter along the promenade and appreciate the Belle Epoque architecture which still stands proud, or stroll 20 minutes to reach the hustle and bustle of pretty Portimão town. Better still, the charming nearby towns of Alvor, Carvoeira and Lagos are easy day trips to include on your Praia da Rocha holidays. If you're big on history and culture, inland town Silves is a leisurely 90-minute boat ride away, complete with a Gothic cathedral, Moorish hilltop castle and pretty cobbled squares worth wandering. Whether you're interested in basking on the beach, catching some culture or tucking into the tapas, you're bound to fall in love on Praia da Rocha holidays.
The golden sandy beach of Praia da Rocha is one of the
best-kept secrets of the Algarve. Cafes, restaurants and shops dot the Tomás
Cabreira boardwalk, which runs parallel to the beach. Beyond the sandstone
cliffs there are even more pretty coves.
Praia da Rocha is a watersports paradise and has plenty of
activities to dive into. In addition to amazing swimming and snorkelling,
you'll find powerboats and jet-ski hire as well as surf schools and paddle
board hirers. If you’re not an adventure-seeker, take a boat trip from the
river front at Portimão and visit the many coastal towns of the Algarve.
Tomás Cabreira avenue has lots of shops selling artwork,
ceramics, clothes, souvenirs and is the hub of the action. The restaurants on
the seaward side of the street have great views out to sea while the bars that
line the street are always lively and fun. Throngs of families and friends
wander the streets and stopping for ice creams every evening during the high
season, giving the town a really vibrant yet family friendly feel.
If you’re holidaying with family, chances are the kids will
love Praia Da Rocha. At Lagoa, the Slide and Splash waterpark is great if
you're a fan of exciting rides and pools. Nearby Albufeira has Zoomarine, where
nature lovers can spot seals, dolphins and birds. Bring your swimming gear for
a fantastic time at the pool!
