  • Ghajn Tuffieha Bay: With a unique blend of dark sand, this bay is a popular surf spot. Natural and unspoilt, the bay is backed by hills, which feature a relatively easy coastal trail. The bay is 10km from Mellieha.
  • Golden Bay Beach: This picturesque cove is less than 5km away from Mellieha. Popular with locals and tourists alike, its clear water is great for swimming and snorkelling. The beach is also well-equipped with sun loungers and there are several restaurants in the vicinity.
  • Armier Bay Beach: On the island’s northernmost tip, you’ll find this locals’ favourite. The beach can be exposed to strong northerly winds, so take care if swimming with little ones.
  • Fekruna Beach: This small stretch of rocky coastline features little space for reclining but its natural beauty and glittering turquoise waters against the cliffs make it worth a visit. The water is accessible via steps and the clarity of the sea here makes it a popular snorkelling spot.

Getting Around Mellieha

Transport in the Mellieha Region

Public transport in both Malta and Gozo is good, with an efficient bus services that can take you to most places. Hiring a car is also a feasible way of exploring the island. Taxis are available if you need to get from A to B quickly. if you fancy travelling a little further, there is a ferry service that links Malta and Gozo and boats link to Comino too. Water taxi ‘dghajsa’ boats are also in use.

Travelling by bus or car

The bus service in Malta runs regularly and offers inexpensive travel to most of the major attractions and regions. Please check with your hotel for an up to date timetable.

Car hire is perfect if you’re a confident driver and want to explore the island at your own pace. Like in the UK, you drive on the left-hand side here, and your normal national driving license should be all you need.
