Malaysia Holidays

Overview

With a fabulous mix of cultures, stunning resorts, beaches and wildlife, Malaysia offers a truly amazing holiday destination and is also the perfect choice if you want to mix a bit of culture with some relaxation. Whether you fancy combining the ultra-modern capital Kuala Lumpur with the beautiful and serene island of Langkawi or you’d like to experience the nightlife and fun of Penang with the unique flora and fauna of Sabah in Borneo, this country really does offer something fabulous for all types of travellers.

Covering a number of different land masses, Malaysia is split between the northern part of Borneo to the east and Peninsula Malaysia to the west. Peninsula Malaysia, with its small islands dotted along the coast is sandwiched between Thailand to the north and Singapore to the south and really benefits from these different cultures as well as having many Chinese and Indian influences.

If you’d like to immerse yourself in a bit of culture head to the eclectic capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Between the modern, high-rise buildings and away from the business centres you will find intriguing back-streets filled with small curio shops and street-food stalls selling delicious and very reasonably priced local delicacies.

If simply relaxing is on your agenda, try the beautiful island of Langkawi. Located off the north west coast of peninsula Malaysia, almost on the Thai border, Langkawi has many wonderful beaches and some delightful beachfront hotels, many with world-class spas.

Or perhaps a bit more adventure is your thing? If so, take a flight to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah where, if you’re lucky, you will be able to meet the local orangutans, the Wildmen of Borneo!

Getting Around

The main hub for Malaysia is the capital Kuala Lumpur. Many airlines fly from the UK to Kuala Lumpur with direct flights operated by British Airways and Malaysia Airlines. Once in Malaysia it is relatively easy to get out and about using public transport (mainly within the major cities) or you may wish to hire a car and drive yourself if you’re travelling inland and northwards. There is also an extensive internal flying network that will allow you to explore every corner of this amazing country.
