Escape the routine and discover the charm of Istria. Located just south of Italy, the Istrian Riviera is proudly Croatian yet carries a touch of Italian influence. Colourful houses, rustic restaurants, and welcoming stays slope gently towards the sparkling Adriatic Sea. Food lovers will feel at home here. The region is rich in olives, truffles, and vineyards producing award-winning wines. Seafood is a highlight, with fresh catches served straight from the boat. Street food stalls tempt those on the go, while cooking classes offer the chance to master local dishes. For fine dining, Michelin-starred restaurants line the harbour, and vineyard visits are perfect for pairing wines with regional flavours.
Istria blends Croatian, Italian, and Balkan traditions, giving travellers plenty to explore. The Byzantine Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while Pula’s Roman amphitheatre is among the best preserved in the world. Wander through Rovinj’s pastel streets or admire the terracotta rooftops of Vrsar overlooking the sea. With over 250km of coastline, Istria offers something for everyone. Families enjoy the shallow waters at A C Zelena Laguna, while Katoro Beach is perfect for volleyball and swimming. For a more adventurous escape, Ladin Gaj Beach includes a naturist section.
Essential Information: When you go and what you'll need

An excellent bus service and plentiful taxis mean that it’s easy to get around the tourist resorts. If you want to head into the hills or explore some of Ibiza’s traditional villages then a hire car, moped or motorbike – or the extensive hiking trails - will get you to the heart of the island. Ferries also run along the coast, and between the Balearics, or you can hire a small boat to beach hop in style.
