Visit the small town of Ston, under an hours’ drive from the city centre, to sample some of Croatia's best Plavac Mali wines and stunning seafood. The family run Skaramuča Winery owns the biggest stretch of the vineyards and covers the slopes above Dingač village, so if you like to sip on fine wines, it's well worth a tour. On the Peljesac Peninsula you'll find some of the best seafood restaurants in the area, Kapetanova Kuca and Bakus are firm favourites with delicious dishes including baked shrimps, black squid risotto, cuttlefish brodetto and more. Spend the rest of the evening in Stadun, the buzzing city centre which is dotted with lively cafés and bars.

Getting Around Dubrovnik

🚌 Transport in the Dubrovnik Region

Take a taxi or board the regular shuttle bus to make the 30-40 minute journey from the airport. Dubrovnik isn’t car friendly and parking is limited so it's best to ditch the hire car and explore by foot. Most attractions can be easily accessed and visitors can grab a taxi if venturing a bit further afield. The town is home to a main ferry port from which you can visit islands like lovely Lokum, which is only a 15-minute journey away.

Travelling by bus or carBuses on the island are cheap, air-conditioned and run regularly between popular resorts. For night owls, the handy disco bus runs from midnight to 6am, stopping at the out of the way clubs and main nightlife spots. Hire cars are cheap and readily available on the island, as are mopeds and bikes, and will give you the freedom to really explore. The roads are better in built up areas than rural spots. Driving is on the right hand side of the road.
