Top 5 things to do in Morocco

Morocco is located in North Africa with a coastline that spans both the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Known as the gateway to Africa, Morocco is one of the most impressive destinations in the world.

Morocco has plenty of sun all year round. The northern and coastal areas have a Mediterranean climate with 30°C summers. Spring and autumn are also warm and winters rarely get cold with temperatures around 20°C. Most rain is from November to March.

But what can you do in this wonderful county? Here are our top 5 picks to enjoy when on cheap Morocco holidays

The Sahara Desert

Spend the night in the desert and the experience will be with you forever. With amazing views and sights you can blend in with the local culture and nature - you will not be disappointed. Why not take a jeep safari or camel trek in the desert to really take it to the next level? You will also experience an amazing desert sunrise when you wake up. Sounds amazing, right?

Jemaa El Fna, Marrakech

This well-known square is located in the centre of bustling Marrakech and holds many shops and stalls. You can experience local delicacies and watch the snake charmers. The old market is surrounded by numerous landmarks, and an old Kasbah that used to secure the area. A taste of real Morocco, that’s for sure.

Surfing the Atlantic Ocean

If you like surfing, where better than on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean? Agadir is known for its stunning sunny beaches and strong winds which of course is great for surfers. October to April is the best time to surf in Morocco with December, January and February being the most popular time. Exposed to the Atlantic Ocean, Morocco’s coast has lots of northwest-to-north swell which can reach up to 5m during these months. The Northwest-facing coast around Casablanca and Rabat gets more swell than the southwest-facing points as Anchor Point near Taghazout.

Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca

This is the 7th largest mosque in the world and in Africa and also the tallest in the world! You can visit the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, but you should be prepared for this trip. Even though it's one of few mosques in Morocco that's open to non-Muslims, you are unable to just turn up. It is only possible to visit the mosque through a guided tour and also outside of prayer times. Remember to wear clothes that cover your shoulders, chest and long enough to reach your knees. Shorts and short shirts are not allowed in the Mosque.

Hot Air Balloon Ride over Marrakech

Breath-taking views with endless landscapes and only the breeze of winds this is an experience of a lifetime. When booking a balloon ride you will normally be picked up from your hotel or nearest pickup point, then taken to a beautiful tent for breakfast. Try and catch the first sunlight as the views with the sunshine are amazing. Watching the balloons being blown up is also a great experience! You will also receive a certificate at the end. This ride will definitely leave you wanting more!
