The 10 Best Beach Holidays

Greece

Greece holidays offer an almost limitless number of beautiful beaches. The country’s islands are some of the most picturesque in the world, with electric blue seas encircled by white cliffs, dappled green hills and picturesque mountain villages. The beaches are set in pretty rocky coves and wooded inlets, and are a mixture of sand and shingle. The water here is perfect for swimming and snorkelling and offers a taste of traditional Greece, which is ideal for those after a quiet getaway.

Teletextpert Tip:

We recommend visiting Elafonissi Beach on the south coast of Crete. It’s tucked away from the rest of the island, making it the ideal destination for a day trip from Chania or Rethymnon. This sandy spot is perfect for families looking for a quiet day out with the kids - but don’t forget to pack a lunch!

Cancun, Mexico

When it comes to beach holiday destinations, Cancun is always a top choice - and for good reason. Whether you want to relax on your resort’s beach or explore a selection of other sandy spots around the city, you’ll be spoiled for choice. When you’re not splashing in the warm waves or catching a tan, you can immerse yourself in everything from diving, snorkelling and other water sports to sipping a drink at a beachside bar, strolling down the shore and collecting seashells.

Teletextpert Tip:

Want to get a taste of local life mixed with an international flair while in Cancun? Head down to Playa Delfines, perhaps the best public beach in the area. Here you’ll meet tourists from all around the world as well as locals having a beach day. We recommend this one for backpackers or solo travellers, as you’re bound to meet loads of interesting people while you’re there.

Croatia

Croatia may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of a beach holiday, but it’s certainly one of the best countries for a getaway filled with swimming, relaxation and gorgeous views. This Balkan country boasts over 1,000 kilometres of breathtaking coastline and offers the choice of both sandy and pebbly beaches, many of which are Blue Flag certified. What’s more, the surroundings are just as - if not more - enticing as the beaches, with picturesque harbours, historical cities and so much more in abundance.

Teletextpert Tip:

If you want to avoid the throngs of tourists, head down to Copacabana Beach in Dubrovnik. It’s slightly out of the way, meaning that it tends to be mostly populated by the locals. If you’re someone who likes to immerse themselves in authenticity while on holiday and meet people who are from the area, this is the beach for you.

Barcelona, Spain

There are four main beach areas in Barcelona, all of which are sandy, golden slices of Spanish heaven. Our favourite is Barceloneta. It’s closest to the city centre, which is great for convenience, but also means it tends to get the busiest. Here you can windsurf, kitesurf, swim, get refreshments from one of the many beach huts or just read a book in the warm sun. What could be better?

Teletextpert Tip:

We recommend Barceloneta Beach for groups on a mates break. It’s lively, fun and close to the city centre - so when you want to go back into town for dinner, drinks and a night out, you won’t have far to travel.

Thailand

Ao Nang is one of Thailand’s longest and loveliest beaches, featuring shallow waters and a seascape dotted with fascinating rock formations - and it’s perfect for the most adventurous travellers. Located in Krabi, the area also offers rock climbing, diving and forests with picturesque caves and waterfalls. If you're up for some island hopping, our Thailand holidays are perfect for that - just jump in a water taxi and head for the next sun-kissed shore.

Teletextpert Tip:

If you fancy a change of scenery, swap spectacular sands for lush tropical forests and go on an elephant excursion - Thailand is one of the top places in the world to see these fantastic creatures!

Majorca

Majorca is a Spanish island that benefits from a wealth of beaches. In fact, it has over 120 total. While this may seem intimidating - how will you ever choose?! - you can rest easy in the knowledge that it’s basically a guarantee that you’ll be happy on just about all of them. There are, of course, the resort beaches, which offer comfort and convenience. If you wish to venture farther afield, there are countless lovely, secluded, nearly untouched spots, featuring sparkling turquoise waters, unreal backdrops and warm white sands. Sounds pretty good to us!

Teletextpert Tip:

If you’re on a family holiday, we think Camp de Mar is a fantastic choice. The calm waters make it safe for children who fancy a swim. There’s also a delicious restaurant just over a wooden bridge, which the whole family is bound to love (plus, the little ones will think crossing the bridge is great fun).

The Maldives

You simply cannot have a rundown of the top beach holidays around the world without mentioning this jaw-dropping archipelago in the Indian Ocean. The white sand atolls and kaleidoscopic waters teem with fish. For snorkellers, scuba divers, beach lovers, couples and families - just about anyone, really - looking for the ultimate tropical escape, these islands and their incredible range of luxury hotels top the charts… and for cracking Maldives holiday offers, look no further! Teletext has got you covered.

Dominican Republic

With some of the world’s most pristine and secluded beaches and many spectacular bays, this tropical island paradise is certainly a honeymoon hotspot. If you like your hotels to be on the luxurious side, we have several to choose from here. The snorkelling is excellent and the lush vegetation covering the island is teeming with wildlife and rare species. If you get fed up with one stretch of picture-perfect beach - although we doubt you will - you can simply find another.

Teletextpert Tip:

If you actually are going on your honeymoon, we recommend you check out Playa Rincon. It’s a tropical paradise that’s perfect for couples - what’s more romantic than watching the sunset on a secluded beach, then retiring to the nearby restaurant for a romantic dinner beside the ocean?

Hurghada, Egypt

Egypt is known for its culture and history - but it’s beaches definitely shouldn’t be forgotten. The popular tourist resort of Hurghada is one of the best spots for a hot holiday on a sandy shore. Try some water sports, such as scuba diving, windsurfing, snorkelling, deep-sea fishing and sailing, or just chill out by the sea. Other exciting activities in this area include submarine trips, fish barbeques, day trips to nearby islands and boat rides.

Teletextpert Tip:

Old Vic Beach is the oldest public beach in the area, near the centre of town and perfect for families. Here you may come across wildlife, such as a heron splashing about in the water or a hermit crab scuttling across the shore, which is sure to excite your children. Plus, it’s good value for the money you’re spending.

If you’re a bit strapped for cash, you’ll be pleased to find the sunloungers come included!

Agadir, Morocco

Like Hurghada, Agadir is a lovely coastal resort, often considered to be the most popular in all of Morocco. The city is modern, stylish and beautiful - but it’s the beach and year-round sunshine that is the real draw. Life here seems to revolve around the enormous, clean beach. Enjoy typical activities such as paddling in the shallows, sunbathing and heading to a local cafe for a treat. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, make sure you try out everything from jet skiing and quad biking to riding dune buggies, horses and even camels.

Whether you’re looking to escape a cold, rainy UK winter or you want to make your summer holidays something special, visiting any of these 10 destinations makes for a beach getaway you’ll be sure to remember for years to come. Whether you want to hang out in Hurghada, dive into the Dominican Republic or swim in Spain, we’re here to help make that happen.
