With its own private beach, six swimming pools, 14 restaurants and bars, and sumptuous guest rooms, Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa is simply the perfect choice for a relaxing and quiet Dubai holiday amidst the otherwise glitzy surroundings of this dazzling desert metropolis... but don't just take our word for it!
Teletext Holidays sent Macca Sherifi and Chloe Gunning – a.k.a renowned travel bloggers An Adventurous World & Wanderlust Chloe – to this lavish resort beautifully positioned on the edge of Dubai’s iconic The Palm island to discover exactly why the 5-star Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa is the ideal option for couples and families seeking a luxurious holiday to Dubai.
Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa is styled around a distinctive French-Polynesian theme, typified by the straw-topped huts scattered around the resort and the waterfalls in the pool areas.
It’s an exotic first impression you’ll receive as soon as you arrive, with beautiful orchid displays filling the impressive lobby and the vast eco-friendly ‘living wall’ of plants and flowers, stretching from one end of the building to the other. A modern take on South Pacific living, the beautifully appointed guestrooms and suites are lavishly furnished, with each featuring a balcony, while a selection offer beach access and even your own private pool.
We stayed in a luxurious Suite, which featured a king-size bed, enormous bathroom with rain shower and large bathtub, plus a lounge area and balcony overlooking the resort and the private beach. The Suite was a grand retreat in which to spend time and the bed was very comfortable. We also enjoyed free speedy Wi-Fi and powerful air-conditioning, a must when temperatures can reach upwards of 40 degrees.
There are several very inviting swimming pools dotted around the resort. The huge main pool has a Jacuzzi attached, plus there are plenty of sun loungers and beds to sunbathe on. Our favourite was the pool with the waterfall, as not only was it peaceful, but the water temperature was just right!
Better still, Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa is endowed with its own private sandy beach. The perfect way to feel the sand in your toes in more discreet surroundings, with an average temperature of 28 degrees, splashing in the Arabian Sea feels like getting into a warm bath.
The hotel is also home to Sofitel’s luxurious So Spa – a top spa with 28 treatment rooms. Among the many treatments you can specify, there are opportunities to pamper oneself with a massage, manicure, pedicure and even a special detoxification wrap. So Spa facilities include a sauna, hammam, Jacuzzi and salt-water pool, plus there’s a gym, hair salon and barbers within the resort.
We visited as a couple, but the Sofitel The Palm Resort & Spa would also suit families. There’s a great kids club and pool area, plus two waterslides… perfect for big kids too!
We opted for a half-board package, which included a great buffet breakfast each morning, and then lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants. I couldn’t help but marvel at the vast choice of cuisines available within the resort – you never need to eat the same meal twice!
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Bottega, the international restaurant located overlooking one of the pools. We tucked into a delicate tuna carpaccio, followed by spicy lamb koftas served on saffron rice. Porter House specialises in grilled food including deliciously juicy steaks, meanwhile at Hong Loong you can watch the chefs in action as they cook up some tasty Asian cuisine.
There are a few bars to choose from too, with one of our top picks being Laguna Lounge – a trendy bar set right on the sand, with a fab menu of cocktails and a chilled beach soundtrack.
Located on the east crescent of Dubai’s unique creation The Palm, the Sofitel is regarded as one of the top five-star hotels in the city, but does so without conforming to the familiar high-rise norms located elsewhere. With this in mind, it is simply perfect for a Dubai holiday for those dreaming of a more tropical environment than the city normally offers.
Within easy reach of the main attractions, it’s just 10 minutes by car from the start of The Palm, around 25 minutes to the Burj Khalifa and 30 minutes to Dubai International Airport. For those travelling with children, the marvellous Atlantis The Palm is located close by with its incredible Aquaventure waterpark and additional dining options.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort And Spa. It provided a really relaxing base with its beautiful beach, refreshing swimming pools and magnificent food. Together with its spacious, lavishly appointed guestrooms and suites and exotic low-rise layout, Sofitel The Palm Dubai really does bring a touch of the tropics to a spectacular, multi-faceted location.
In fact, with its beach vibes and close proximity to the city and all of its activities, Sofitel The Palm Dubai really does offer the best of both worlds for a memorable Dubai holiday.
