MOON PALACE CANCUN REVIEW

One of Cancun’s premier all inclusive beach resorts, Moon Palace sits on Mexico’s stunning Caribbean coast and is home to more than 10 swimming pools, over 20 places to eat and drink, a golf course and several spas. With plenty of activities for all the family, there’s always something to do.

Teletext Holidays sent Macca Sherifi and Chloe Gunning – a.k.a renowned travel bloggers An Adventurous World & Wanderlust Chloe – to this all inclusive resort close to Cancun, to discover exactly why Moon Palace Cancun is the perfect option for couples or families seeking a luxurious holiday on Mexico’s Caribbean coast.

ROOMS AT MOON PALCE CANCUN

attractive looking interiors of hotel bedroom of moon palace cancun

5-star Moon Palace Cancun offers something very special from the start, as it’s actually three resorts in one. There’s Sunrise, Nizuc and The Grand at Moon Palaca Cancun, each with their own decadent lobbies with huge chandeliers, activities, bars and restaurants. There are over 3000+ rooms across the resort, but as they are spread out over a large area, it never feels crowded. It really is impressive, and we felt the 5-star welcome from the moment we checked in.

The concierge delivered our luggage to our stylish top floor ocean-view room in the Sunrise section. All rooms have an exciting feature as standard – a huge Jacuzzi bath in the bedroom! There’s also a balcony, complete with a hammock (well this is Mexico) and a bathroom with a powerful shower and high-end toiletries. There were also some extras including hair straighteners.

As this is an all inclusive holiday resort, there were some treats in the bedroom waiting for us when we checked-in. Not only was there a bottle of red wine waiting, but also a mini bar featuring four full size optics. These bottles of spirits are filled up daily, so you really could have a hot tub party if you wanted to!

The rooms also benefit from free speedy Wi-Fi and powerful air-conditioning.

Meanwhile, rooms over at The Grand are newer, many with larger balconies and some with access to a private swimming pool.

FACILITIES AT MOON PALACE CANCUN

This resort is home to several swimming pools, which include children’s pools, adult’s only sections and Jacuzzis. Being such a large resort, you could stay a week and relax in a different area every single day. Throughout the day, a team of energetic staff provide entertainment including games, contests and dance classes. This continues into the evening with dance spectaculars and magic shows.

For anyone keen to practice body boarding or surfing there’s a FlowRider (a wave simulator) or if you’re looking for pampering, there are spas in each of the hotel sections. We visited as a couple, but Moon Palace Cancun would also suit families. There are kids and teens clubs, a miniature golf course, plus a brand new waterpark and bowling alley at The Grand – perfect for children and big kids like us!

To enjoy the great restaurants and amenities at The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun you need to pay for a day pass – something which is well worth doing, especially as you can use your resort credit (something received as standard for staying at the hotel).

For night owls there is a nightclub in each section of the hotel, plus you can order 24-hour room service as part of the all-inclusive perks!

Moon Palace Cancun is positioned along a long stretch of white sandy beach. Just above is a long promenade, perfect for a leisurely holiday stroll, plus several areas with chairs, umbrellas and bar service along the seafront.

FOOD & DRINK AT MOON PALACE CANCUN

You could choose to dine somewhere different every day, thanks to the variety and abundance of Moon Palace Cancun restaurants. The food is international, gourmet and a huge selling point for this hotel. Among others, there’s an Italian stone baked pizza restaurant, gastronomic Mexican, Brazilian churrascaria, steakhouse and Asian teppanyaki.

We looked forward to the daily breakfast buffet which featured everything from French toast, waffles and pancakes, to freshly cooked omelettes, tacos, juices, cereals and some seriously tasty pastries! It was easy to overindulge, so we did a few extra laps of the pool to burn off a few calories! Most restaurants offer a buffet service at lunchtime, where you’ll find delicacies including, sushi, grilled seafood, tacos and salads. In the evenings, the resort offers a mix of buffet and a la carte options. Each lobby also has a café, serving fresh coffees, desserts, crepes, sandwiches, ice cream and the pièce de résistance – colourful macaroons. I never expected to stay anywhere with all-inclusive macaroons!

One of our favourite dining experiences was at MoMo in the Sunrise section, where Asian chefs juggle eggs in a theatrical teppanyaki show. We also thought the steaks at both Palapa Barracuda and JC Steakhouse were excellent. We were also extremely impressed by the standard of food at the buffets at breakfast and lunch – it was varied, delicious and much of it was cooked right in front of you.

Along with the many beach and pool bars dotted across the resort, there are extravagant bars in each lobby area, and the chic Sky Bar in Sunrise. The bar staff at Moon Palace Cancun shake up excellent cocktails, with premium spirits and stylish touches. In fact, we felt the bar experiences were easily comparable to those in London’s top hotels.

WHERE IS MOON PALACE CANCUN LOCATED

While Moon Palace is conveniently located just 15 minutes from Cancun Airport, it’s also in an excellent position for other attractions.

Tours leave daily from the hotel to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, meanwhile the bright lights of Cancun city are within 30 minutes. There are also plenty of key attractions nearby including Xplor, Xel-Há and Xoximilco. We’d recommend taking part in some water activities, many of which can be booked via the hotel’s Vacation Planning service. We enjoyed a day out in Isla Mujeres (paradise islands a short hop from Cancun), and a morning dive at MUSA (the underwater sculpture park). For those with a car, the resort offers valet service, so you could venture to the famous Tulum ruins or explore some of the magical cenotes nearby.

WHY YOU SHOULD BOOK MOON PALACE CANCUN RESORT FOR A CANCUN HOLIDAY

Our stay at Moon Palace Cancun was truly indulgent from start to finish. We adored the dining options and the freedom to eat somewhere different every night, all within the safety and comfort of the resort. Along with the plentiful list of things to do in Cancun, with fun activities, beautiful white sandy beach and choice of swimming pools, it really was a relaxing week in the sunshine.

Plus, it was the perfect base for exploring the beautiful Yucatan region of Mexico, with its ancient Mayan ruins, stunning Caribbean beaches and unique attractions.
