IN A GALAXY NOT SO FAR AWAY: ALL ABOUT GALAXY'S EDGE, THE STAR WARS WORLD IN DISNEYLAND

In the wake of the launch of the new Star Wars film, Disneyland has launched an all-new immersive intergalactic experience called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The experience is a must-visit for Star Wars die-hard fans and movie buff holidaygoers. Here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know before visiting the park...

GET TO KNOW GALAXY'S EDGE: THE BASICS

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a new themed immersive experience in California’s Disneyland. It is set in a fictional settlement called the Black Spire Outpost on the Planet Batuu, roughly set at the same time as the most recent Star Wars movie.

The area is made up of three main areas. The First Order Headquarters is a central town and marketplace and a resistance encampment. The area not only features a themed, adrenaline-inducing ride, but also has Star Wars characters roaming around the area conducting their usual business. Visitors can expect to run into Chewbacca, some stormtroopers, Kylo Ren and Rey. Visitors will also get the opportunity to explore the main marketplace and Don Akbar’s Den of Antiquities, which is full of Easter eggs for the eagle-eyed Star Wars fan.

THE GALAXY'S EDGE RIDES

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

The Smugglers Run ride gives explorers the opportunity to take control of the fastest spaceship in the galaxy. This interactive experience allows visitors to take part in the operation of the Millenium Falcon. Every explorer will play a vital role in this daring smuggling mission, whether that be the role of an engineer or pilot. As the ship blasts into hyperspace, each fan will be responsible for avoiding the dangers that await in the outer rings of space.

There will be training provided by Hondo Ohnaka, so don’t be put off if you’ve never flown a spaceship before. Your failure or success will depend on how your squadron works together.

RISE OF THE RESISTANCE

The Rise of the Resistance ride is Disneyland’s pièce de résistance. The ride simulates an adventure in the heart of the First Order Star Destroyer. You’ll find yourself sneaking past irate stormtroopers and navigating an intergalactic battlefield as you help spearhead the resistance movement. The best part? This experience is designed to make standing every instance fun - even standing in line.

What makes the ride so innovative is that the experiences change depending on which cart you ride in and what time of the day you choose to go. This means that the ride is begging for multiple turns in one day, as each time will be utterly unique. With the pure sensory overload and variety of scenery, this ride will stimulate the imaginations of adults, children, Jedi wannabes and Star Wars laymen alike.

THE OTHER HIGHLIGHTS OF STAR WARS: GALAXY'S EDGE

On top of the two centre-piece rides, the Star Wars world has a range of additional experiences that make the land all the more enticing.

Oga’s Cantina

To add to the thrilling experiences that are integral to the storyline, Disney’s Star Wars land also captures the imaginary day-to-day of outer space in this world. Oga’s Cantina replicates the feel of the Mos Eisley cantina in A New Hope. Oga’s Cantina is the first place in the Disneyland Park to serve alcohol - but don’t worry, it also has a range of non-alcoholic drinks to keep the kids satisfied as well.

Savi’s Workshop

Savi’s Workshop is in an unmarked location in Batuu. The workshop gives visitors the opportunity to build their own lightsabers, making it a must-visit for any budding Jedis. Although the experience requires booking, it is well worth it for those who want an authentic souvenir to take home.

Droid Depot

For those who are looking for an interactive crafting experience, the Droid Depot is certainly worth a visit. The Droid Depot gives users the opportunity to build their own C3PO-like drone. Visitors can choose to upgrade their drone by inserting a personality chip, which will give their droid a personality of its own.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland is well worth a visit for adults and children who want an immersive plunge into George Lucas’s beloved fictional universe. And for fans who want to test their knowledge, why not see if you can beat our Star Wars Bamboozle Quiz?
