A barrier to winter sun has been lifted by the Canaries tourism authorities as they briefed the UK travel industry on Wednesday afternoon that entry to the islands would be permitted with results from the cheap and quick Covid-19 antigen test.
This news dramatically brings down the cost per person of going to the Canary Islands this winter and the quick result means you can book and travel with confidence.
The Canary Islands were though removed from safe travel list on the same day so if you do decide to travel to the Canaries in the next few weeks you will need to self-isolate on your return.
Winter Sun in the Canaries will be back on the table once cases drop so keep an eye on updates because soon as it is placed back onto the safe list you’ll benefit from warm weather, fewer crowds and hotels offering some of the best deals in a long time.
The new edict relating to tests contrasts with travel advice currently set centrally in Madrid where the PCR testing still applies for mainland Spain and the Balearics and will ensure that the Canary Islands is the UK travellers #1 choice for Winter Sun in 2021.
The Canary Islands government released a statement saying that its “pioneering system” has so far proved reliable, and out of 250,000 people it has tested in the past five weeks, only a small number had returned a positive test, but this has not stopped the UK government from removing it from the safe list.
There is still a standoff with officials from the national government though, with the Canary Islands government stating it was negotiating with the Ministry of Health in Madrid “to harmonise the regional standard with the national one”.
