Scoobys British Cafe & Bar
Benidorm, Costa Blanca
At Scoobys they guarantee a proper cup of tea or coffee using – and we quote from their cheeky poster – ‘proper milk (not UHT), boiling water (kettles) and served in mugs (proper!)’. They also use British ingredients wherever possible, including Heinz beans, English bacon and sausages and Roberts thick-sliced bread in the all day breakfasts. Or if you’ve got a smaller appetite, how about a toasted teacake to accompany your ‘proper cuppa’? The free British library (complete with newspapers so you can catch up on what’s happening back home) is a nice touch too.
Benidorm is one of our top resorts for family holidays in 2017 - so if a brew by the beach if your thing, grab your bags!
The Little Elm
Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote
This hidden gem in popular Puerto Del Carmen has been described as ‘the best of British’ – testament to the 30 years of UK pub and restaurant experience of its owners, Alan and Tim. Enjoy all your family favourites here, like sizzling fajitas, hand battered cod and chips, salmon with new potatoes, lasagne with chips and garlic bread, and steak and ale pie. All served up in a cute little restaurant near the sea. Perfect!
Scooby’s Pool Bar and Restaurant
Gale nr Albufeira, Portugal
We’ve stumbled upon another Scooby’s but this one offers lots more besides a brilliant British menu! Here you’ve got a swimming pool, playground and mini golf, making it a fantastic stop if you're enjoying family holidays – they’ll even come and pick you up from your hotel, so no shelling out for taxis! The menu boasts all day breakfasts, fish and chips, and steaks – as well as light bites like jacket potatoes, burgers and hot dogs. Kids are well catered for too – they’ve even got their own cocktail menu! And Sky Sports HD means it’s a great place to catch the big game once you've stepped off the beautiful beach.
Paris, Bordeaux and Toulouse
An English pub chain – but in France! FrogPubs has eight venues in Paris, plus three ‘FrogBurger’ joints, as well as a pub in both Bordeaux and Toulouse. What’s special is that they commission best-in-class brews from around Britain for their pumps, including East Kent Golden Ale, Burton Pale Ale, London Porter, Yorkshire Bitter and London Ale. You’ve also got some cheekily named bottled beers like Parislytic, InSeine and Dark De Triomphe (get it?!). Not forgetting the food, of course – the burgers are brilliant, or try the fish and chips, BBQ pork ribs or the tacos.
Universal Studios, Orlando
Harry Potter is one Brit that’s most definitely famous worldwide and if you’re heading to Universal Studios in Orlando, you can follow in the footsteps of Harry, Hermione and Ron and dine at the Leaky Cauldron or the Three Broomsticks. The Leaky Cauldron gets top marks for its position on Diagon Alley and a magical menu featuring bangers and mash, cottage pie and fish and chips. All washed down with a frothy glass of Butterbeer, of course!
Oliver’s With a Twist
Los Cristianos, Tenerife
For fine dining, British style, Oliver’s is a popular choice when you're feeling peckish in Los Cristianos. So popular that diners confess to booking months in advance to eat there! The dishes have a cool British twist – you’ll find a ‘Baby Full English’ and ‘Boiled Egg With Twisted Soldiers’ on the starter menu and ‘Posh Fish and Chips’, ‘Old Fashioned Homemade Pies’ and ‘Lamb with Garlic and Rosemary’ on the mains – all so good you’ll definitely want to ask for more! Just make sure you nab your table around the same time as you book your holiday!
The Rope & Anchor
Cala Bona, Majorca
At the Rope & Anchor, the great British pub experience meets the Spanish seaside! Holding a perfect position overlooking Cala Bona’s pretty harbour, it might not look much like a pub from the outside but inside it’s all wooden tables and Brit-brand beers on tap. Food wise you’ve got all the comforts of home, from corned beef sandwiches with Branston pickle to meat pies, chicken kiev, and chips and egg. Plus you’ll find fish and chips, Sunday roasts and a full breakfast menu, of course. You’ll be spoilt for choice!
