Great Places to Visit

Tick Off the Iconic Sights

One of the major reasons for a visit to New York is the wealth of famous sights, monuments and landmarks that you’ll find. From the vertigo-inducing Empire State Building to the thought-provoking Ground Zero and the hustle bustle of Times Square, there are enough itinerary fillers to keep you going until your feet give in!

Chill Out in Central Park

This colossal park in the heart of Manhattan is a welcome escape from the skyscrapers and busy sidewalks. While you won’t find it empty of tourists, it’s big enough to accommodate everyone without feeling overcrowded. Hire a bike, tour the park attractions or sit back and relax as you look out across the mesmerising NYC skyline.

Tour the Statue of Liberty

Situated in New York Harbour, the Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognisable monuments in the world. Take a cruise around the harbour, or hop off onto Liberty Island and enjoy a tour of the grounds. Or, for the ultimate experience – and one that offers spectacular views of NYC – head up into the statue’s crown.

Catch a Show on Broadway

As New York’s answer to the West End, it’s essential to reserve a couple of seats on Broadway if you’re a theatre lover. Many of the world’s favourite productions have had stints on Broadway, at one of the 40 theatres found there. Current open-ended shows include Chicago, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia! and The Book of Mormon.

Getting Around

The iconic yellow cabs are ideal if you’re in a group and can share the fare, but traffic requires a lot of patience. For that reason, car hire isn’t recommended if you’re staying within the city. A new ‘Cab with Me’ system is also available, offering shared rides. New York is one of the finest cities in the world for walking, especially Manhattan. Alternatively, you can ride the subway which is economical and fast.

By Bus

There is a network of buses, plus Hop-On Hop-Off buses, available for your use in NYC. Normal buses are cheap and easy to use, but traffic can be a problem so they’re not advised if you’re in a rush!

By Car

It’s best to leave the driving gloves at home if you’re staying within the city, because driving here (and parking) can be a serious test of anyone’s patience! If you do drive though, keep to the right.
