THE MOST AMAZING PLACES TO VISIT ON MALTA ISLAND WITH THE KIDS

This hidden gem in the middle of the Mediterranean is perfect if you're planning a fantastic family holiday, especially as we've rounded up the most amazing places to visit with the kids. Whether you hit gorgeous Golden Bay beach, a splash-tastic waterpark or explore the lively resort of Bugibba, there's never a dull moment during your Malta Island holidays.

Malta Holidays

GOLDEN BAY BEACH & BEYOND

Malta is sprinkled with golden sandy beaches and bays the kids will love, so be sure to pack your bucket and spade. The most popular spots are Golden Bay and Melliena Bay, where soft sands are sprinkled with sunloungers and umbrellas to relax on once you've tried and tested the watersports. You'll find quieter stretches closer to neighbouring resort Gozo, including the gentle waters of Ramla Bay, where the kids will enjoy clambering up Calypso Cave. If the bigger kids want a little adventure, you'll find speedboats, jet-skis and canoes available at Sun & Fun watersports centre, or hop on a boat to Comino's Blue Lagoon for incredible azure waters.

VISIT POPEYE VILLAGE

The young and young at heart shouldn't miss the chance to say hello to Popeye the Sailor, Olive Oyl and friends! The original 1980 film set of musical production 'Popeye' is now a thriving tourist attraction located just off Mellieha Bay. Kids can meet famous cartoon characters, have fun with water games, catch a puppet show and much more, and if you get bored of being a flim star, hop next door to Anchor Bay, a rocky beach equipped with sunbeds and splash pools.

All that exploring is sure to set your stomach rumbling too, well luckily we've found the best restaurants in Malta to keep hunger at bay!

CATCH A FERRY TO BIRGU

Take the bus from Valetta and spend the day at Vittoriosa, with charming streets, baroque churches and a breathtaking waterfront, where you can look out at luxury yachts. Hop aboard a Dhagsa or gondola to the child-friendly museum at Birgu to learn about Malta’s maritime past. Valletta’s pedestrianised lanes, piazzas and choreographed fountains also make for a fun afternoon of exploring.

SPLASH AND FUN WATERPARK

If you fancy a splash-tastic day out with the family, Splash and Fun Waterpark is a treat for tots and teens alike, whether they want to hit the flumes or relax on a sunlounger. Located in Naxxar, the popular park is free to enter and has everything from aqua aerobics to adrenaline-pumping rides (the Black Hole is the one to brave!), so you can ensure everyone is catered for. There are sizzling BBQs, live entertainment and music to enjoy in the evening as well.

OUTDOOR FUN IN THE MALTESE SUN

Take a tour of Malta’s islands on a glass-bottomed boat or 4x4 jeep safari, which can be organised at Malta Gozo Excursions. Go horse-riding in Valetta, pack your flippers and discover the marine life at Paradise Diving centre or the rocky inlet of Għar Lapsi at Dingli Cliffs, or simply set sail around Malta's beautiful beaches. Spend the day at the lively Sunday market in Marsaxlokk, where the kids will love looking at the painted boats bobbing in the bay.

STROLL AROUND LIVELY BUGIBBA

The Bugibba promenade serves up a lively atmosphere and seafront views, making it a great spot if you're after a leisurely stroll in the sun. The path stretches along the coast heading towards the neighbouring resort of Qawra, and you'll find plenty to keep you occupied along the way, including cafes, bars, beaches and the national aquarium too. Drop in at the South African-inspired seafood spot, Ocean Basket for a tasty treat before heading to Sottozero Gelato Factory on your way back.
