The Best City Breaks in the USA

Who said city breaks need only be short hops to Europe? You may be surprised to know that many of the big American cities are favourite city break locations which can offer fantastic value for money and make the 6+ hour flights well worth it! Take a look at our top US holiday recommendations that do not require two weeks off work to experience.

New York City

Panoramic View of Statue of Liberty at New York City

We are sure that many of you are well aware that New York holidays are very popular with Brits who want to do some pre-Christmas shopping or simply want to visit a world famous city at an affordable price. But is it worth a 6-hour flight? You bet it is! For us to list all the attractions would take all day and there is a reason why New York is known as the city that never sleeps so rest easy knowing that you can pack as much as you can into a four day break and still leave wanting to explore more.

A typical day could see you rise early and experience breakfast in a local diner – steak and eggs for breakfast anyone? Once you are full, you can head to one of the major attractions nice and early to try and beat the crowds, with a visit to the Statue of Liberty a must for first time visitors. Be warned though, if visiting in winter you will want to wrap up warm, as New York winters can be harsh when exposed to the elements. Afterwards, it is time to explore the shops of Time Square (Macy’s is a must!) before finishing the day with a big American cheeseburger and a few drinks in downtown Manhattan. Then the next day you can experience something totally different but equally as exciting. New York holidays really are ideal for people of all ages looking for fun and adventure all year round.

Chicago

Chicago, Illinois, USA Cityscape

Known as Chi-Town to the locals or the Windy City to everyone else, this city is the jewel in America’s Midwest and is a superb alternative to New York if you don’t mind adding a few hours onto the flight time which takes 8 hours from London. Home to museums, beaches, parks and fantastic public art, the city has something for everyone. If you enjoy modern history then take one of the city’s famous crime walks to learn more about how the Chicago Mafia came to power and visit some well-known and not-so-well-known Chicago Mob hangouts. Super cool!

If you are wondering about when to visit, March is a great time to explore this wonderful city. Or you could choose to visit in the winter and experience a snowy Christmas in Chicago. This city is ideal for a 4 day break and is home to limitless hotel options such as the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile, Inn of Chicago Hotel, Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel and many more!

Las Vegas

View of the Bellagio Fountains and The Strip in Las Vegas

Crowned as the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas offers round-the-clock thrills for party lovers and thrill seekers alike!  Situated in Nevada, this neon city is best known for its casinos, luxury resorts, dazzling shows, scintillating nightlife and shotgun weddings. If you’re looking for the best time to visit the ‘Sin City’, the warm, sunny weather during spring and autumn won’t disappoint you. Home to lavish hotels like Wynn Las Vegas, MGM Grand, The Venetian and Mandarin Oriental, the glamorous Las Vegas Strip is where all the action unfolds! Whilst located close to the west coast of the US, there are direct flights from the UK and can even be combined with a stopover in New York or another city to get more bang for your buck. Why not try a Las Vegas holiday for yourself and see what all the fuss is about – you won’t be disappointed.
