The building dates back to the 18th century and represents the typical Serrano style of the area. Alterations were made in the first half of the 19th century, which mainly affected the facade of the building and in the latter half of this century it began to be used as a travellers inn. The building consists of 2 parts with a small patio between them. The first part, being the front of the building, is the oldest which maintains the original chestnut beamed ceilings, so typical of the area. The back half of the building was used for storage and stables where travellers could stable their animals overnight. The Posada, as the village of Alajar, was a place of passing trade where travellers stopped to sell, rest and then continue their route to Sevilla with products from Portugal. Despite the renovations needed to provide an up to date facility, the Posada remains a charming building, enclosed by walls that hide centuries of history and character. Hotel La Posada has 8 en suite rooms and an attic for up to 6/7 people, all recently refurbished with individual character, heating for the colder months and fans for the summer. Four rooms are double, four twin and the attic offers a twin, a double with an extra bed and a double sofa bed in the sitting room. As a good nights sleep is as important to us as to our guests we have invested in comfortable beds. The hot water system, heated via solar panels, ensures that the water pressure provides an abundant shower and the bathrooms have all been updated with lever taps and shower screens providing our guests with modern conveniences. An important concern is scrupulous cleanliness, along with good quality towels and sheets with quilts for the winter months.
