My partner and I enjoy taking small trips around Europe and staying in nice hotels. Some parts of our stay at this hotel were great, but others were absolutely awful and very sub-standard for this kind of place.

First, this may seem minor, but in hindsight it should have been a red flag. For context, I use an app that finds discount codes. I used one, received 30% off, and happily used the savings to cover the cost of breakfast (25€/person/day). The following day, I received an email from the hotel saying that although the code had gone through, it was only valid for residents and therefore could not be used. I found it rude and poor customer service to ask me to pay the difference when it was their website that allowed the code to work. It would not be difficult to restrict codes by address. As it was a week before Christmas and I had other things to worry about, I let it go and asked them to cancel breakfast instead. Somehow this could only be done by cancelling and rebooking our entire stay, which resulted in many unnecessary emails. I stayed quiet, hoping the holiday would still be relaxing. I should have booked somewhere else.

On arrival, we experienced the worst customer service we have ever encountered. The doorman was absolutely brilliant, helpful, kind, and polite. Unfortunately, his colleague at reception was shockingly rude. He did not offer us a seat, ask how we were, or acknowledge our journey or anniversary. Instead, he repeatedly tried to convince us to book breakfast after I had already explained why it was cancelled. Rather than apologising, he told us that the 200€ per night room we booked was actually “really bad” and located through a dark tunnel, and that we should pay for an upgrade. We were exhausted and had just arrived, yet the only thing we were asked for was more money.

The room itself was pretty and had a nice sea view during the day. However, there were three major downsides not shown on the website. First, the shower and toilet are each in separate glass boxes, which feels more like a public swimming pool setup than a hotel room. Second, from 8am onwards there was an extremely loud pump noise coming from the pool on our balcony that woke us every morning and ran most of the day. It could not be turned off. Lastly, there were several insects in the room, though we had opened the window so this may be expected. On the positive side, the room was very clean and housekeeping staff were excellent and clearly cared about their work.

As it was off-season, many facilities were closed. Had this been clearer on the website, I would likely have booked elsewhere. The restaurant was closed, dining took place in the bar area, and the outdoor pool and bar were also closed. Only reception and the spa were regularly staffed, making the hotel feel largely shut down.

For dining, we expected a five-course gourmet experience. Instead, we were asked to choose from the standard menu, and even then the food delivered did not match what was listed. I ordered chicken with sun-blushed tomatoes and received chicken with lentils. Thankfully I like lentils. At this point it became laughable, especially given the mediocre quality. When we asked for the meal to be charged to our room, the waiter chased us outside to demand immediate payment, as if we might run away.

Finally, we felt judged for choosing to use the bus instead of renting a car or taxis. We from a city, conscious of our carbon footprint, and chose this hotel partly because of the bus stop directly outside. Staff reacted with visible confusion when we said we did not need parking or taxis, which felt unnecessary.

There were some positives though such as the doorman, the waiter who kept lighting the outdoor fire for us, the housekeepers, and the spa staff were all excellent. The spa itself was lovely, albeit small, but manageable due to the season.

TLDR: some staff were wonderful and deserve recognition. Everything else was shockingly poor for the price. I would not recommend this hotel

I really enjoyed my stay at the Hospes Maricel. The room I choose was the attic room with 360 degrees of windows and a morning view of the sunrise.
Two of the windows look out to the sea above the dining area. It was peaceful to sleep with the windows open. Ample heat amd and a bath tub I didn’t use. The shower do have some water spillage due to the design. The hotel staff was warm, helpful and responsive.
I had the Christmas dinner which was different and interested. There was live piano player and Guitarist as well. The breakfast is a must ~ buffet style for all diets and fresh juices, prosecco.
The spa treatment area is a bit small but sufficient. The sauna can hold about 5 comfortably and the pool was heated and good to swim although only 4ft.
Taxis are easy to arrange and the from desk can access.
Umbrellas are handy as it rains suddenly at this time. A little chilly in the day and evenings.
I would return. It is a gorgeous island. You can take a car into the city for shopping and the cathedral.
One of my favorite sushi places is a seven minute walk to the hotel.

Room super cozy with view of the ocean and very clean. They came twice while we were gone. Each time individually had chocolates for us in the room, and had done our beds (all during the day). They also had a welcome card and a bottle of almond cream liqueur, both complimentary. Kudos to their attention to detail!

Very nice long breakfast (not too much though even it was 10 courses) in spectalucar atmosphere and view to the sea. Service by Marco was very pleasent and he made us feel most welcome, even though we came only for breakfast.

Amazing breakfast „del mundo“. A breakfast version of a Michelin star dinner. Really liked the concept and the great service by Marco.

An exceptional experience. The huevo de onsen was outstanding — perfectly cooked at low temperature, with mushrooms and truffle creating an incredibly deep, earthy, and comforting flavor. Every bite felt carefully thought through, balanced, and refined.

The dish alone felt Michelin-level: precise technique, high-quality ingredients, and an emotional impact that stayed with me long after the plate was empty. The restaurant has a quiet confidence — no unnecessary theatrics, just excellent cooking done right.

Truly memorable. I will definitely return.❤️

We have already been to the best breakfast menu in the world at the Hotel Maricel several times. It is always a pleasure, varied, exciting compositions. 10 courses full of delicacies. Today Marco did the service and it was great. Thank you very much. See you next time.

A unique place overlooking the sea
Our name is no accident. Sea and sky come together in this privileged Mallorcan location, where you will enjoy a stay filled with the colour blue and the salty breeze in the two buildings that make up our hotel: the Palace Building, a stately construction inspired by the style of the 16th and 17th centuries; and the Natura Building, on second line of the sea, with an avant-garde style and noble construction materials.

It has a winter Spa, with sauna, Turkish bath, heated swimming pool half outside, half inside and rest room. The summer Spa consists of stone caves at the foot of the sea where you can enjoy treatments with the sound of the sea.
