The main international airport in Sri Lanka is located just outside the capital Colombo, and whilst it is possible to take short domestic flights to the different parts of the island, these can be quite pricey. Most tourists either take a hotel shuttle or taxi to their preferred destination as these are plentiful and relatively inexpensive. The roads have improved drastically over the last 10-15 years but getting between some inland destinations can take a while so be prepared for some long journeys.
