If you are looking for a destination that feels close to nature and far from the usual crowds, the Costa de la Luz is a perfect choice. This peaceful stretch of Andalucia runs from Spain’s southern tip towards Cadiz and Huelva, offering a mix of protected landscapes and traditional charm. You’ll find pine forests, rolling dunes, rugged hills, fishing villages and endless sandy beaches. As it’s popular with Spanish visitors, the food is wonderfully authentic, with fresh seafood and local dishes at the heart of every meal.

Costa de la Luz offers more than just golden beaches. Away from the shore, you’ll discover a region filled with culture, history, and adventure. From lively cities to ancient ruins, there’s something for every type of traveller.
Cadiz, with its pastel-coloured streets, is famous for fresh seafood, vibrant nightlife, and centuries of history. Wander through the charming old town, admire the marina, then see how the city comes alive after dark. History lovers can explore the largest Roman theatre in Spain, aqueduct remains, and fascinating finds at the museum, including Phoenician artefacts.
Huelva, another key city, is closely linked with Columbus’ voyages. The port and historic wharves offer a glimpse of local life, while the museums and striking cathedral showcase the city’s heritage.
At the very tip of mainland Europe, Tarifa is known as the windsurfing capital of the continent. Here, a relaxed, creative atmosphere mixes with sport and style. Its narrow streets are filled with independent shops, lively cafés, and striking architecture.
Just outside Tarifa, the ruins of Baelo Claudia provide a step back in time. Temple remains, aqueducts, and stone streets reveal how people lived over 2,000 years ago in this once-bustling Roman settlement.

The Costa de la Luz is home to some of Spain’s most striking beaches, known for their soft golden sand and unspoilt charm.
Zahara de los Atunes is a wide stretch of beach where you’ll always find space to relax. It’s popular with water sports fans, offering rentals and lessons, and at low tide you can swim out to the remains of an old steamship called El Vapor.
La Victoria Beach in Cadiz is one of the most visited, with plenty of restaurants and bars lining the promenade – perfect for enjoying local flavours after a swim.
For a beach with a natural setting, Matalascanas borders the Donana National Park. Alongside its full facilities, it’s a great spot for an evening out, with restaurants and lively nightlife nearby. The fallen watchtower on the sands is a reminder of the region’s history of defending against pirates.
Chipiona Beach combines long sandy shores with cultural landmarks such as an ancient Roman lighthouse and a medieval castle.
If you prefer a smaller bay, Caleta Beach in Cadiz is ideal. With no motorised sports, it’s a peaceful place to swim or sunbathe. Children will love exploring the rock pools, especially in summer.
