Getting Around

The main centre of Faro is fairly compact, and its pedestrianised streets make it perfectly walkable (but a map can really help!). There is a good bus network that links the city with the beaches, the suburbs and the local airport. There are also buses and trains that can take you further afield, while taxis are on hand if you need something quick and convenient. Many holidaymakers tend to hire a car as the roads are well marked and easy to navigate.

Faro's Fantastic Beaches

Faro’s famous beaches are located on sandpits that run along the shore, with pretty lagoons great for a swim on one side and large Atlantic waves along the other side! Boogie board in the Atlantic and relax on sunkissed sands by the lagoon. Both sides are flanked by numerous shops, eateries and bars. The Ilha de Faro, Ilha da Armona and Ilha Deserta beaches are quite popular among tourists and locals alike.

Spot Birds at the Ria Formosa Natural Park

It may be a city, but Faro is on the outskirts of a natural park, where birdwatchers and nature lovers will feel right at home. The scenery here is stunning, and as it’s protected, the beauty is here to stay. It’s a migration route for many species of birds, including flamingos and the rare purple swamphen, so take your camera!
