The former fishing village of Albufeira, in the district of Faro, is now one of the Algarve’s most popular destinations. The stunning Blue Flag beach is the major draw, sandstone cliffs surround the sweeping bay and you’ll find a medley of watersports on offer before stopping at one of the restaurants and bars nearby.

Tee off at world-famous golf courses or hit the shops at the main square for souvenirs and handicrafts. Go down to the colourful Albufeira marina, on the western outskirts, where you can sit with a drink at a bar and watch luxurious boats bobbing in the waters. Drop in at the Albufeira old town, walking distance from The Strip, for a quiet meal or a night out at bars that are open till the early hours.

The Old Town in Albufeira teems with quaint pavement cafés where you can indulge in delicious local cuisine, and people-watch as the world ambles by.

The charming narrow streets are lined with whitewashed houses, providing an authentic Portuguese feel.

As the sun sets, the Old Town transforms into a lively entertainment hub, bustling with a variety of bars and vibrant night spots. From traditional Fado houses to modern dance clubs, there's something to suit every musical taste.

If you're a night owl looking for a place to let your hair down, 'The Strip' is your go-to spot. This bright, neon-lit avenue that stretches from the marina to the vibrant nightlife hub comes alive as the sun goes down.

Getting Around Albufeira

🚌 Transport in the Albufeira Region

The main centre of Faro is fairly compact and its pedestrianised streets make it perfectly walkable. There is a reliable bus network that links the city with the beaches, the suburbs and the local airport. There are also buses and trains that can take you further afield, while taxis are on hand if you need something quick and convenient.   Car hire is readily available and is a great way of getting out and exploring the rest of The Algarve and beyond. If you do choose to hire a car, stick to the right-hand side.
