Indonesia can be explored by car, bus, boat, or plane, and most cities and towns can be discovered by foot as well. Many visitors find renting a motorbike or a bicycle another convenient way to get around but these require an international driving permit.

Cars can be rented from numerous locations in Indonesia although an international driving permit is needed. Public buses run around most towns and to tourist hotspots, and various private companies sell tickets between most towns and cities.

If you are travelling join a British Citizen passport you will not need a visa to enter Indonesia for visits of up to 30 days. For visits up to 60 days holiday makers will need to purchase a visa in advance or on arrival and then extend it during their stay.

Indonesia is relatively safe with no major unrest in major tourist towns but foreigners should still exercise caution.

Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio, Japanese B Encephalitis, and Rabies vaccinations should all be taken in due time before your trip and your GP should be consulted about which areas you are going to for further advice on materials or regional specific healthcare information.
