Nestled on the southwestern tip of Florida, the sun-kissed Miami is crowned as one of the best beach destinations in the USA, thanks to its glorious tropical climate, alluring sands and spectacular nightlife. The climate of Miami remains sunny throughout the year, but given that the city experiences sweltering summers, the spring months (March to May) are ideal for visiting.
Miami holidays are a haven for those who like glitz and glamour, with South Beach’s eclectic mix of pumping bars, colourful boutiques, beachside restaurants and al fresco bars serving up fun every night of the week. Add to that clubbing on Ocean Drive and shopping at Lincoln Road Mall, you’ll never run out of things to do in Miami.
Holidays to Miami are pitch-perfect for family holidays too, with the resort boasting loads of fun family-friendly attractions. Apart from enjoying a beach day on South Beach, you can opt for exhilarating water sports such as paddle boarding, water-skiing, jet-skiing, scuba diving, windsurfing and more. Drive down to Florida Keys, which offers great opportunities of snorkelling, and if you travel all the way to Key West, don’t miss the spectacular coral reef. How about taking a day trip to the Everglades National Park, where you can spot alligators and crocodiles? Miami isn’t just about beach fun. Capture a piece of Cuba in Little Havana, or discover the city’s Art Deco district on the Miami Beach, along Ocean Drive. The fun never stops in this sunny paradise, and one trip is never enough!
Take the short but scenic drive over the Rickenbacker Causeway from the big city and relax in Key Biscayne, which boasts incredible beaches. Enjoy a swim, cycle, kayak or picnic on the beach or head for a BBQ at Crandon Park, complete with a family amusement centre, nature centre and cool cabana rentals. Visit the 400-acre Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park or venture to the interactive Jungle Island zoo in the village.
There are reasons why Miami's nightlife is famous the world over, and you only have to spend a few hours drinking cocktails on Ocean Drive to see why. This Art Deco strip is where the Miami magic happens once the sun goes down and whether you fancy pre-dinner drinks or dancing until dawn, this stunning beachfront street. South Beach's number one party hotel, Clevelander, is the hottest spot in the area with a total of nine bars serving 17 beer options, 15 frozen drink machines and over 30 different wines. Settle on the lively C-Level Rooftop Terrace, SPF4 Sun Deck or Pool & Patio and you're guaranteed an energetic evening. Club O1, Mango's Tropical Café and Nikki Beach Club are also popular on the party circuit.
The island of Cuba may lie just across the water but Little Havana is the next best thing. If you feel like a slice of Cuban culture head to the colourful neighbourhood of Calle Ocho, just west of downtown Miami. Soak up the authentic atmosphere as you stroll past fragrant cigar stores and a string of salsa bars, before enjoying a taste of the traditional cuisine in the local cafés and restaurants. Live like the locals and start your day at Versailles Cuban Bakery for a hearty breakfast, before trying out the delicious dinner El Pub in the evening, and of course, the Azur Ice Cream Company for a sweet treat.
Once dubbed the ‘Fifth Avenue of the South’, Lincoln Road Mall is a mecca for shopaholics visiting the city. Just a few blocks from Ocean Drive, the mile-long, pedestrian-only promenade is brimming with excellent shopping, dining and entertainment. Here you'll find boutiques, high-street brands including Zara, H&M and Forever 21, and some of the best cafés, bars and restaurants around. Once you've pottered along the parade of shops, try out the tasty chicken tacos at Huahua's or munch on Balan's Mediterranean menu. Before you leave, enjoy a cocktail or two at Juvia, a pretty penthouse bar on the corner of Lincoln Road.
South Beach is the most iconic neighbourhood in Miami. From the swooping facades of the city’s signature art-deco designs to its neon bars and vibrant party scene, South Beach oozes fun and epitomises colourful Miami ocean-side living. During the day, head to South Beach to enjoy the turquoise waters and the soft white beaches and explore more on a DecoBike – Miami’s answer to Boris bikes where you can hire and pay as you go.
Miami is heaven for watersports enthusiasts – you can paddleboard, waterski, Jet-Ski, scuba, snorkel windsurf, kitesurf and much more on its city and neighbouring beaches. For snorkellers, the exceptional Florida Keys are an easy drive south – and the road linking the keys is said to be one of the most scenic in the world. Biscayne Bay is where you'll find lots of the action with parasailing, hobie cats, boat rentals and dolphins and mantra ray spotting excursions. Due to a series of shallow flats on its east side, the bay is protected from rough ocean seas making sailing safe and enjoyable for all levels of experience. Further down the coast, Coconut Grove is popular with kayakers and paddleboarders or if you're feeling more adventurous join a moonlight canoe tour along the Coral Gables waterway.
From towering burgers and succulent steaks to fritas, gator bites and pastelitos, Miami is a mouthwatering melting pot when it comes to dining options. Inspired by the city's Caribbean, Cuban and Mexican neighbourhoods, tasty bites you need to try include The Yoyo at Maracuya, Chicharrón at El Palacio de los Jugos, Fruity Pebbles Donut at Mojo Donuts, Pastelito Burger at Pincho Factory and Fried Fish at Chef Creole.
Miami's colourful nightlife leaves nothing to the imagination and once the sun goes down it's time to step foot in some of the city's most iconic clubs, bars and lounges. Nothing is better than an evening sipping signature cocktails and enjoying the spectacular views, so whether you're looking for an afternoon beachfront party, a happy-hour hotspot, or late-night bottle service in the city, Miami has it all. Wet your whistle at South Beach's bars Kill Your Idol and Monty's, relax on the rooftops of Juvia and Dream South Beach, or enjoy your favourite tipple in the tiki bar Rum Line at Loews Hotel.
