Fort Lauderdale holidays offer fantastic tropical weather alongside the air-conditioned comfort on incredible hotels. Just up the coast from Miami, this US city has everything you could want for on a family holiday. Beaches and activities can keep the kids entertained all day, and you’ll never struggle to find a place to feed everyone!
Despite the sunny climate, you can still enjoy time indoors if you want to cool off on your holidays to Fort Lauderdale. The city has several museums which purposefully cater to young children, making sure no one gets bored. When you’re ready to explore the great outdoors again, there are endless trips and activities to keep the family entertained. A visit to the famous Florida Everglades can show you plants and animals you’ve never seen before. Butterfly and flamingo sanctuaries can be found here, and you can even go on a swamp safari in a hovercraft!
If you want to splash around but the beach isn’t your scene, the kids will love a day at the Paradise Cove waterpark. And why not wow the little ones with a trip to the planetarium so marvel at the stars? There really is no end of things you can do on child friendly Fort Lauderdale holidays. The only problem you will have is fitting everything in! Don’t worry though – with or guide you’ll be able to figure out exactly what you want to see and do before you travel.
Unquestionably the first thing you should do when visiting a place like Fort Lauderdale is hit the beach. The city’s main beach – conveniently called Fort Lauderdale Beach – is a paradise of white sands, palms trees and warm water. Finding a drink or a parasol to hire from a vendor isn’t difficult. When the midday heat becomes a bit too strong to sunbathe in, families can easily find a restaurant nearby to grab a bite to eat and enjoy some air conditioning!
The stunning weather in Fort Lauderdale makes it the ideal location for a waterpark. Slides, ride and fun await families who visit here for the day. Massive umbrellas are even available to rent so you can protect yourself from the sun in between trips down the dozens of water slides. Paradise Cove is open daily from 10am to 5.20pm. Entry costs $12.30 per person, with babies under one are not charged.
If you have a car and fancy a day away from the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale, we’d suggest taking a short road trip. A couple of hours drive away, and beyond the nearby Miami, is the southernmost city in the contiguous USA – Key West. This island city can be reached down an incredible stretch of highway across several small islands, making the drive along worth it for the sites. While there you can enjoy beaches and fine restaurants, or just bask in the relaxed atmosphere of Fort Lauderdale’s chilled-out neighbour – perfect for a day out with the kids.
This 60-acre not-for-profit reserve is home to plenty of wildlife, however most guests unsurprisingly are desperate to see the incredible flamingos. While they shouldn’t be missed, don’t forget to check out the alligators, otters and eagles (if you can see them) as well! The gardens are open from 9.30am to 5pm seven days a week, and offer the perfect day out for children who want to see some of the world rarest and most exotic animals.
