South Dalmatia holidays can be as relaxing or as active as the mood takes you. Find a secluded sunbathing spot on one of the jaw-dropping islands or experience city life, Croatia style. Sample the wines in the Peljesac Peninsula, go fishing in Zadar, sail around Croatia's enticing islands or cycle along picturesque mountain trails.

Sail Away

Sail Away

Whether you go for a day trip or decide to island hop, it's a must to explore some of the islands along the Croatian coastline. These gorgeous sun-soaked jewels offers some of the best snorkelling and diving in Europe! Mljet boasts a green, tranquil national park and a lovely sandy beach. Or try Korcula, with its town of the same name (also known as Little Dubrovnik), which offers all the best of Croatia in miniature. For the young at heart, party boats operate from Split and most major resorts.

Hit the Beaches

Hit the Beaches

Most of the area’s beaches are pebbly, so if you prefer the feeling of sand between your toes you need to catch a ferry to the islands of Korcula, Mljet or isolated Susak, which is almost entirely made of sand. The famous arrow-shaped beach of Zlatni Rat is possibly one of the most photographed beaches in Croatia and worth a visit. But perhaps Croatia's calling card is the abundance of beach options, you can find a new cove, bay or beach to enjoy every day, with many of them gorgeous and private. Larger resorts have great beach bars and restaurants to enjoy all day long. Even the city of Dubrovnik boasts several beaches a short distance from the city walls – perfect for recovering from all that sightseeing.

Take a Road Trip

Take a Road Trip

The Peljesac Penisula boasts stunning coastal scenery, tiny villages and sheltered coves. You’ll need a car to explore this beautiful area but the views you’ll enjoy on the journey are part of the attraction. Make sure you visit the gorgeous little town of Ston and sample some of the wine the area is famous for on a tour.

Do Dubrovnik

Do Dubrovnik

The ancient town of Dubrovnik, nicknamed the pearl of the Adriatic, is the main attraction for history, culture and shopping in South Dalmatia. With its winding alleyways, quirky boutiques, rich history and great choice of restaurants and bars, it captivates all its visitors. With a sunny climate long into the winter, this is a great city break option and the thriving club and bar scene means night owls will be very well entertained.

Head for the Harbour Towns

Head for the Harbour Towns

With hundreds of islands just a short ferry or water taxi ride away, the harbour towns of southern Dalmatia are a real tourist draw. From glamorous Hvar to picturesque Korcula, historic Stari Grad and charming Ston (and many more) holidaymakers should spend evenings soaking up the sights and enjoying the waterfront vibes of Croatia's harbours. Split is Dalmatia’s main ferry port and it has great shaded plazas, an interesting Old Town and a restaurant-lined harbour. Visit the Podstrana suburb to feast on some delicious calamari and Croatian sausages. Split also has a lively market, from where you can pack a picnic basket of local produce and cheeses.

Try a Nudist Beach

Try a Nudist Beach

The Dalmatian coast is very relaxed and some of the beaches are nudist friendly. The Peljesac peninsula, particularly the area between Zuljana and Trstenik, has several coves where naturists can enjoy a bit of freedom. Bol, about 40 minutes from Split, is an official topless beach destination and attracts plenty of sunbathers. Just remember that suncream!

Hvar Great Time!

Hvar Great Time!

The stylish port of Hvar is one of the most lively harbours in Croatia and is just as beautiful as it is glam. Don't be surprised if you see a celebrity or two sipping cocktails at the stylish bars or docking their luxury yacht at the glitzy marina. Enjoy a cocktail in one of the open-air bars, dance till dawn at the buzzing clubs or just enjoy a relaxed meal with a great view. Restaurants set back from the water's edge will be a little cheaper than those right on the marina.

Add Some Adrenaline

Add Some Adrenaline

Outdoor pursuits are big in Croatia, thanks to the fantastic climate and great scenery. Take the opportunity to ride the rapids and jump off cliffs into the clear seas and head to Cetina River Canyon for kayaking. The peaceful island of Vis is a dream destination for biking, besides being famous for its wine. Go mountain climbing in the picturesque coastal town of Makarska. Go camping in Zaton, a small bay town, often missed by tourists and fish with local fishermen in Zadar.
