the great outdoors during your holidays in California. If you’re feeling
sporty, go hiking, mountain biking, paragliding or paddle boarding along the
Big Sur coast. Explore the beautiful national parks or beach hop in Malibu,
Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, Orange County and beyond!
Hit the Big Sur
The California highways boast some of the most scenic
coastal drives in the world. Head out to the wine country and enjoy the
charming towns where you can camp on the beach, go wine-tasting or horseback
riding. Santa Barbara is also close enough for some retail therapy and boasts
some amazing beaches and restaurants. Drive to the popular hiking and skiing destination
Big Bear Lake, crossing alpine Lake Arrowhead on the way. Or head up Highway 1
and see the majestic Big Sur!
Venice Beach
Gondolas and canals welcome you to Venice Beach, famous for
its lively boardwalk and shopping boulevard. Get a temporary tattoo, watch
jugglers and mime artists and enjoy spectacular surfing at the famous Venice
Breakwater. You can also take a shuttle, cycle or a 45-minute walk to sandy
Santa Monica beach, with a backdrop of awe-inspiring mountains!
LA Activities
Head to Hollywood Boulevard to find your favourite movie
star’s name on the Walk of Fame. Don't miss the TCL Chinese Theatre, home of
the stars’ handprints and the Dolby Theatre where the Oscars are held. For the
best view of the iconic Hollywood sign, go to the intersection of Hollywood
Boulevard and North Highland Avenue - camera, lights, action!
Shopping in LA
Whether you are bargain hunting or shopping for a royal wardrobe, there’s something for everyone in Los Angeles. Hit the Venice Beach Boardwalk for cheap sunglasses, t-shirts, art and handcrafted souvenirs. The Fashion District downtown is bustling with over a thousand shops making it a hit for affordable fashion finds. If you’re willing to spend big bucks or fancy a spot of window-shopping, head to Rodeo Drive for top designer stores. Other sophisticated stores include the Pacific Design Center in the West Hollywood Design District, the upscale Beverly Center mall in Fairfax and Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood.
Thrilling Theme Parks
Disney fans and adrenaline junkies should base themselves in
the south east of LA, in Orange County's Anaheim or Buena Park. These resorts
are tourist heaven, with popular attractions Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm
on the doorstep. Take the kids along and enjoy the thrilling theme park rides,
alongside shopping, eating and excellent nightlife. If your tots aren't tired,
Universal Studios Hollywood is another top attraction to see here!
Food & Drink in Downtown
LA has a fantastic bar and club scene – from stylish celeb
hangouts to trendy beach bars in Malibu and Santa Monica. The rooftop bar scene
is big here and sipping champagne while watching the sun set is a great way to
end a fun-filled day. If you've come for the clubs, Viper Room has great live
music nights while star-spotters can head to Supperclub in West Hollywood.
The Golden State Beaches
For a taste of the laid-back SoCal lifestyle, travel to the
hip beach towns of Santa Monica or Venice for a welcome contrast to all that
Hollywood glamour. Here it’s all about the pier, the promenade and the chance
to watch the golden sun disappear into the Pacific – a sight you'll catch on
average 340 nights a year!
