The East Coast is a beautiful area on the eastern side of the Malay Peninsula. It has a lot to offer for travellers. It includes the states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, each with its own unique attractions.

If you love nature, the East Coast has some of Malaysia's most beautiful beaches. Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Redang have soft white sands and clear waters, perfect for activities like snorkelling, diving, or just relaxing in the sun. Inland, Taman Negara National Park allows you to explore one of the world's oldest rainforests with activities like jungle trekking, canopy walks, and river cruises.

For those interested in culture, the East Coast is rich in traditions. You can see traditional wayang kulit (shadow puppetry) performances in Kelantan, admire songket weaving, or take part in Terengganu's lively kite festivals. The food in this region is also a highlight, with delicious dishes like nasi dagang and keropok lekor.

Getting Around East Coast Peninsular

Getting Around

Kuala Lumpur is the main hub for Malaysia and many airlines fly here from the UK with direct flights operated by British Airways and Malaysia Airlines. You can also choose from a selection of indirect flights including those operated by Emirates, Qatar or Singapore Airlines, to name but a few. Once you have landed in Kuala Lumpur it is very easy to get around, whether you choose to take a local taxi, one of the many regular buses, the Light Rail Transit(LRT) or the KL Monorail which cuts through the city connecting many of the major areas.

Passports and Visas

British citizens do not require a visa to visit Malaysia if their trip is less than 3 months. You will, however, need to have 6 months validity on your passport. For more information visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/malaysia/entry-requirements

Health and Safety

We highly recommend you have full travel and medical insurance for your holiday to Malaysia. For the latest health and safety information visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/malaysia/health. Malaysia is quite a vast country but is generally pretty safe. We would always advise to exercise caution in bigger resorts, at night and places away from tourist areas though.

Vaccinations

Travellers to Malaysia should contact their local GP or Travel Clinic to obtain full advice on which vaccinations they will need (some may need Typhoid and/or Hepatitis B). All tourists should also make sure their routine jabs are up to date.
