Getting Around Hong Kong

Transport in the Hong Kong Region

The easiest way to explore is via the Mass Transit Railway (MTR). Use a rechargeable Octopus card or a tourist day pass for unlimited MTR access for a cost-effective way to see all the sights.

Taxis, available in three colours serving different areas, provide an alternative means of transportation, though they may be less efficient due to potential traffic and higher costs.

The Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour and the historic double-decker trams on Hong Kong Island offer picturesque routes at a nominal fee.

If you want to hire a car, you’ll need a UK license or an international license. Driving is on the left – it is a former British colony after all.

Passports and Visas

All British passport holders can enter Hong Kong for a period of up to 90 days without a visa. Make sure you have at least 6 months remaining on your passport.
