What Are City/Tourist Taxes?
When you book a holiday, you might come across something called a “city tax” or “tourist tax.” This is a small fee charged by local governments to help fund things like tourist facilities. It’s usually paid per person, per night, and collected when you check in or out of your hotel in the local currency. Your hotel may also charge a resort fee, which is payable directly to the hotel.
The amount can vary depending on where you’re staying, how long you stay, and even the star rating of your hotel. Some destinations charge just a couple of pounds per night, while others may not charge anything at all. These taxes aren’t always included in your booking price, which can sometimes cause confusion.
But don’t worry – we’re here to help! We’ll always let you know if city taxes apply to your booking, and we’ve also created a handy guide to help you check if city taxes apply to the country you're travelling to.
It’s just one of the ways we make holiday booking simple, clear, and stress-free.
