Tenerife's appeal goes far beyond its sweeping golden beaches thanks to its vast and vibrant landscape. If you're a nature lover, take a trip to the centre of the island and explore Mount Teide National Park, where you'll find the third largest volcano in the world. The adventurous can explore this craggy landscape by foot and hike up the hills surrounding the volcanic peak or travel 7000ft to the top in a cable car and be spoilt by spectacular views. Visit at night and you can catch a tour on the starry constellations, before indulging in a delicious dinner under the night sky.

Fun-loving families will be spoilt for choice when it comes to Tenerife's thrills and spills. The sun-kissed island serves up some of the best waterparks in Europe, including Siam Park and Aqualand Park, making it the perfect chocie for a splash-tastic day out. Bursting with exhilerating flumes and man-made beaches against a Thai-themed backdrop, Siam Park is sure to keep the young (and young at heart) entertained from sunrise until sundown, whether you brave the steep slides or float effortlessly along the lazy river. If you can drag the kids away from the attractions, the park's cafes, restaurants and bars are the perfect place to refuel.

Playa de las Americas has made its name as the islands' party resort and it's got everything from excellent eateries with al-fresco dining to late night shopping, stylish cocktail bars and world-class DJs. You'll find dozens of buzzing bars clustered around the three main areas: the Veronicas, Patch and Starco Centre, so you can seek out the cabaret shows and karaoke nights with ease. If you're looking for an elegant evening head to Costa Adeje for its cool cocktail bars or why not sample a taste of traditional Spain in Puerto de la Cruz, where lively chart hits are swapped for latin flair and smooth salsa sessions.

Just a short drive from Playa de las Americas gets you to the fantastic golf course of Costa Adeje. Inaugurated in 1998, this golf course overlooks the ocean, the island of Gomera, and the rugged Adeje mountains. This verdant 27-hole golf course features small lakes and craters. The course is quite popular among golfers, for the idiosyncrasy of its round and the spectacular environmental surroundings. But that’s not it, Costa Adeje boasts a variety of clubs and courses that are fit for a King, including Campos, Casa Club and Torneos – better still, you'll savour views of the gorgeous backdrop of Adeje mountains in the distance.

Big, glitzy, and vibrant, Tenerife's Santa Cruz de carnival parades are the most “Brazilian” of all the Spanish carnivals. The carnival radiates rhythm, colour, luxury and of course the most brilliant spectacle. The street parties, glittering costumes and endless dancing are part of the scene and you should definitely consider donning a costume, too, as you may feel a bit out of place in your normal attire! So if you're in Tenerife in February and looking for a party like a scene, head to Santa Cruz for one of the world’s biggest celebrations.

Many of the resorts in Tenerife offer lively bars and excellent restaurants, but if you're looking for endless party options everyone knows that Playa de las Américas is the place. You'll find DJ-clad clubs, live music venues and a cluster of cocktail bars that make up 'The Patch', so you wont be short of lively entertainment once evening rolls around. Shenanigans, the Bulls Head and Soul Suite are great for live music from rock 'n' roll to smooth Motown classics or, for the younger crowd, Papagayo Beach Club and Monkey Beach Club's stylish cocktails lounges on the sand are the perfect way to start your night. Los Cristianos is also a great spot if you're after buzzing bars or if you prefer a cosier or quieter scene, the bars in Costa Adeje are perfect for a romantic night out with your partner.
