Spanish Holidays for Sports Lovers 2021

It’s been a lean year for sport as the pandemic took its toll on the calendars of all our dearest and most loved sporting events. We had to endure a summer with no FA Cup, no Wimbledon, no Tour de France and no Open with some events being rescheduled and many more cancelled entirely.

Today we’re going to showcase the best holidays in 2021 for sports lovers to double down on their sporting fix and make up for lost time. For tennis lovers we’ll focus on the island of Majorca, home to Rafa Nadal, and a tennis hotspot throughout the year. For cyclists we will espouse the virtues of stunning Calpe, upon the terrain of which professionals punish the pedals through the off-season. For football fans it had to be a visit to England’s training camp in Salou. Finally, Spain is the place to be for golf lovers with the Costa del Sol the home of Spanish golf and Seve’s Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club the jewel of the Malaga golfing scene.

It’s very handy that these meccas of sport are also top holiday resorts so your other half will never know your ulterior motive for choosing to holiday there! Without further ado, lets look for the best sporting holiday deals in Spain for 2021.

Cycling fanatics opt for Calpe

Cyclists are looking for two major factors in their cycling holiday, climate and terrain and Calpe offers both through 320 days of the year making it the perfect winter training base for the pro-peloton. It would not be unusual to see Chris Froome or Alessandro Valverde speeding past you over the hills surrounding Calpe.

We recommend a holiday at the 3* Sunsea Village on the outskirts of Calpe as an excellent base for cyclists where a 7 night holiday is available from £101 per person.

Golf lovers holiday in Malaga

The ultimate holiday for golf lovers, Andalucia boasts more golf clubs than the rest of Spain combined and it’s not unusual to catch the pros in the winter swinging a club at some of the regions most up market courses. However, many of the best clubs are open to the public and Malaga province itself has just shy of 100 golf clubs, so unless you’re staying year round in the region, you’ll never play the same course twice.

We recommend the 4* Barcelo Malaga Hotel located in the heart of the city with pools and facilities to keep your other half entertained while you pop off for a sneaky 18 holes.

Tennis fans choose Majorca

Majorca has long been a base for the very best Spanish tennis players and even our own Andy Murray spent some of his formative years on the Balearic clay. However, why not base your holiday around Rafa Nadal’s new Majorca academy. Here you’ll find adult academies and junior tennis camps with some of the best coaches in Spain providing top tutorials including Rafa’s dad and ex Spanish #1, Carlos Moya!

Manacor, the home of the academy is a few kms inland from Cala Millor where you can find holidays from just £189 per person per week!

Football nuts fancy Salou

With the England Football team training camp nearby and the football mecca of Barcelona FC’s Nou Camp a day trip up the coast, we think the ultimate holiday for the family of a football lover has to be Salou.

And speaking of the family, the kids will be in heaven in Salou. Not only are the beaches of the Costa Dorada, long, wide and full of golden sands, this area is also home to Europe’s biggest theme park; PortAventura!

We recommend the resort town of Salou as a base with hotels available from an amazing £149 per person per night.

So there you have it, you may have missed your sport in 2020 but its possible to catch up through the Spanish winter and book a break to the mainland or islands with Teletext
