From 4am on 11th February 2022, travel rules are again being updated for people returning to the UK from abroad. All testing requirements will be removed for eligible fully vaccinated arrivals, with only a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) now required. Arrivals who are not fully vaccinated will only need to take a pre-departure test and a PCR test on or before day 2 after they arrive in the UK. Children aged 12-15 in England will be able to prove their vaccination status or proof of prior infection via a digital NHS COVID Pass from 3 February for outbound travel.&nbsp; 
An Update on the Turkey Coronavirus Situation

	Like most other countries in Europe and beyond, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/turkey">Turkey</a> has been severely impacted by the effects of COVID-19. Turkey began implementing restrictions in early March 2020, after the country’s first case of COVID-19 was reported. Schools, restaurants, bars and shops were shut down, and travel restrictions were imposed in 31 cities. Complete lockdown has been in effect on weekends and national holidays since the beginning of April 2020.</div>

	In mid-May, though, the government started a schedule, to be implemented gradually, for easing internal restrictions. Certain businesses, including shopping centres, restaurants and cafes, parks, sports facilities, some smaller shops and barbershops, were allowed to reopen. (Why is it that hairdressers always seem to reopen first? Aesthetic reasons, probably. Presumably we’ve all gotten pretty shaggy lately.)</div>

2022 Holidays to Turkey: Are They Possible and What Would They Look Like?

The Turkish tourist industry definitely wants to see you on holiday there in 2022. However like most destinations you need to make sure you meet the requirements before you enter the country. As of today (27th January 2022) these are the requirements for British tourists –&nbsp;
<ul>
	<li>
		You will need to complete the <a href="https://register.health.gov.tr/">online form (Form for Entry to Turkey)</a>, a maximum of 72 hours before travelling, to enter Turkey if aged 6 and over. This is not necessary for transit passengers.</li>
	<li>
		All arrivals into Turkey will be subject to a medical evaluation for symptoms of coronavirus, including temperature checks. Arrivals may be subject to random PCR testing on arrival.</li>
	<li>
		You must wear a face mask at all times whilst in an airport, and for the duration of all flights, to and from Turkey.</li> 
</ul>
<h2>
	If you’re fully vaccinated</h2>
<ul>
	<li>
		If you’re fully vaccinated, you can enter <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/turkey">Turkey</a> without needing to test or quarantine.</li>
	<li>
		At least 14 days must have passed since your second dose of the vaccine and the vaccine must be approved by the Turkish Ministry of Health or World Health Organization.</li> 
</ul>

	Proof of vaccination status</h2>
<ul>
	<li>
		You must present proof that you have been fully vaccinated to enter Turkey.</li>
	<li>
		Turkey will accept the UK’s <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/demonstrating-your-covid-19-status">proof of COVID-19 recovery and vaccination record</a> and proof of COVID-19 vaccination issued in the Crown Dependencies. Your NHS appointment card from vaccination centres is not designed to be used as proof of vaccination and should not be used to demonstrate your vaccine status.</li> 
</ul>
<h2>
	If you’re not fully vaccinated</h2>
<ul>
	<li>
		If you’re not fully vaccinated, you’ll need to show proof of a negative PCR test (taken no more than 72 hours before entry), rapid antigen test (taken no more than 48 hours before entry), or proof of a recent recovery from COVID-19 within the last six months, when entering Turkey. <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/list-of-private-providers-of-coronavirus-testing">See information on getting a test before entry</a>.</li>
	<li>
		You should not use the NHS testing service to get a test in order to facilitate your travel to another country. You should arrange to take a private test.</li> 
</ul>

	If you’ve had COVID-19 in the last six months</h2>
<ul>
	<li>
		If you’re not fully vaccinated but have recovered from COVID-19 in the last six months, you can enter Turkey. You’ll need to show evidence of a positive PCR test (taken more than 14 days and less than six months ago). You will not need to take an additional COVID-19 test.</li>
	<li>
		You can use the NHS COVID Pass to demonstrate proof of COVID-19 recovery when entering Turkey.</li> 
</ul>
<h2>
	Children and young people</h2>
<ul>
	<li>
		Children aged 11 and under can follow the rules for fully vaccinated travellers to enter Turkey.</li>

When the coronavirus hit the USA, states like New York and New Jersey really felt the impact. States like Florida, on the other hand, have been a bit luckier in comparison, and have now joined the ranks of the earliest states to begin to ease coronavirus restrictions.&nbsp; 
While parts of the US are still experiencing strict social restraints, Florida has begun to tip-toe toward normalcy. Does this mean we can pack our bags, throw on some flip flops and head for the sand?&nbsp; 
It’s going to take lots of baby steps to get there, but some states - like Florida - are more eager than others to get business buzzing again. Attractions and establishments are now slowly reopening to local residents, but the FCDO still advises British nationals against <a href="https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/usa" rel="no follow" target="_blank">all but essential international travel</a> to the USA.

Florida and the Coronavirus: The Latest News
A lockdown wasn’t implemented in Florida until 2 April, making it one of the last states to restrict all non-essential movement. Now it’s among the largest states to begin to ease coronavirus quarantines. But hey, all that space means more room for social distancing, right?
&nbsp;
<h3>
	PHASE 1 - 4 MAY</h3>
Just a month after it was shut down, Florida governor Rick DeSantis announced some of the state would be reopening. Phase one of his plan made an effort to relax the workplace closures and stay-at-home orders. Some beaches and state parks have reopened with enforced social distancing, the typical two metres/six feet that we’ve heard touted every day for the past eight weeks. 
Small retailers and restaurants have also been permitted to open their doors, with limitations of only hitting 25% capacity.&nbsp; 
Initially, Governor Ron DeSantis strayed away from <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">Trump’s guidelines</a> by not allowing gyms to open just yet, so locals could continue to work on their ‘quarantine body’ in peace. However, since May 18th, Florida has entered into a ‘full phase one’, meaning gyms are now allowed to reopen. No more excuses for being a couch potato. 
As of 1 June, <a href="https://www.timeout.com/miami/news/miami-hotels-are-reopening-on-june-1and-heres-what-you-can-expect-052920" rel="no follow" target="_blank">hotels in the Miami area</a> have opened to the general public once more - although health precautions are in place to ensure the safety of the staff and guests. Face masks are required in public areas such as the lobby, lifts are operating at 50% capacity, guests’ temperatures will be taken during check in and all rooms will be sanitised regularly. A small price to pay for a stay in a hotel, if you ask us - we’re all sick of our homes by now!

Since the ‘full phase one’ has kicked in, restaurants have also been allowed to open at 50% capacity, allowing for a slightly more normal experience of eating out.&nbsp;

	PHASE 2: 5 JUNE</h3>
If you think the idea of sitting in a restaurant is exciting, wait until you hear about phase two! Bars and cinemas are now open at reduced capacity (although, funnily enough, you currently <a href="https://www.axios.com/florida-coronavirus-desantis-3fe9b6c4-532b-4b2f-bf20-391e586abd2d.html" rel="no follow" target="_blank">can’t drink alcohol while at the bars</a>), as well as personal services such as tanning salons and tattoo parlours. Retailers can now operate at full capacity, as can gyms and fitness centres. Nightclubs will, however, remain closed - but you can still have a dance party with some friends, as you can now gather in groups of 50 or less.

	PHASE 3: 25 SEPTEMBER</h3>
On Friday 25 September, the governor announced that Florida is now officially entering <a href="https://health.wusf.usf.edu/post/floridas-reopening-phase-3-what-does-it-mean#stream/0" rel="NO FOLLOW" target="_blank">phase three of its reopening plan</a>. While it is still advised that individuals continue social distancing and avoid large crowds wherever possible and that businesses adhere to proper hygiene and sanitisation standards, phase three allows for some more freedoms including (but not limited to!): 
<ul>
	<li>
		Fitness centres and gyms can open at full capacity.</li>
	<li>
		Nightclubs, bars and restaurants that make 50% or more of their revenue from alcohol sales can operate at full capacity.</li>
	<li>
		While businesses should continue to encourage employees to work from home, they should begin thinking about and implementing plans to return to the office.</li>
	<li>
		State parks and public beaches can fully reopen.</li>
	<li>
		Large sporting events can resume.</li>

Theme parks and more
We know what you’re thinking. But what about the theme parks? We want to go to the theme parks! You’ve been dreaming of going to <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/florida/orlando/walt-disney-world" target="_blank">Disney World</a> for your whole life. Think of it at only 25% capacity - no lines, no sweaty crowds of people sardining for shade in the middle of the afternoon. It’s what dreams are made of, for sure. We bet now all you want to do is throw on your Mickey Mouse ears and go for a spin in a giant teacup. Listen, we’re right there with you.&nbsp; 
The good news is that <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/florida/orlando/universal-orlando-resort" target="_blank">Universal Orlando</a> has announced a phased reopening plan starting on 5 June - including Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay - and Walt Disney World began reopening on 11 July!&nbsp;This follows the reopening of <a href="https://www.disneysprings.com/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">Disney Springs</a> and CityWalk in late May, subject to certain restrictions. 
If, today, you were to visit the many shops and restaurants that this attraction has to offer, you’d see hand sanitising stations and face masks abound. And you’d have plenty of space, as social distancing is being monitored and encouraged and the park is running at a lessened capacity.

The Florida Keys, which reopened to visitors on 1 June, have wholeheartedly embraced protective measures like social distancing, hand washing, wearing face masks and more - making for safe and responsible fun in the sun for Florida residents.&nbsp;

Will Holidays to Florida 2026 Be Possible?
Wanderlust is like a thirst that can only be quenched with a tall glass of water (or a cool dip off the coast of <a href="https://www.sunny.org/webcam/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">Fort Lauderdale</a>). We’re feeling the urge to book that flight and take off on holiday, especially after being bogged down at home in quarantine.&nbsp; 
The beaches of Florida sound like the perfect place to take a deep, salty breath of ocean air and unwind. Take a look at <a href="https://www.earthcam.com/usa/florida/miamiandthebeaches/?cam=miamibeach1" rel="no follow" target="_blank">Miami Beach</a> in <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/florida/miami" target="_blank">Miami</a>, Florida. There’s plenty of space for you and your family to sprawl out, and Florida beaches will no doubt welcome your company with open arms. 
That being said, it’s no surprise that Floridians flocked to the beaches like seagulls as soon as they were reopened to the public. Is it really a Florida beach if it’s not packed with ocean-lovers?&nbsp; 
Sure, social distancing is being monitored and beaches and restaurants are open (with restrictions), but the future of holidays to Florida depends on how well the public responds to the health and safety guidelines. Like we’re all probably used to by now after so long in quarantine, we just have to wait and see how the health trend shapes up before we can start packing our bags.&nbsp;

Is Florida Safe to Visit?
Is Florida safe to travel to? While we’re still not sure when the best time to visit Florida will be, as per 08 October 2026, things are looking positive as the state enters phase three of reopening. 
As per 8 June 2026, things are looking positive as the state enters phase two of reopening. 
If you were to travel right now, parts of your trip would be a bit different, starting with having your temperature taken as you deboard your plane. On the other hand, you’ll have more space to yourself on beaches and in some of the parks, and if you’re willing to queue a little, you might get a seat in a half-full restaurant. 
However, it’s important to note that the UK government still recommends that you don’t travel to the USA unless absolutely necessary - and even then, once you return back to the UK after your trip, you will have to self-isolate for 14 days. It looks like it’s best to hold off on booking your holiday for the time being… but we’ve got our fingers crossed that the USA (and, most importantly, Florida) will be added to the list of <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/blog/everything-need-to-know-about-uk-air-bridges-and-travel-corridors" target="_blank">government-approved travel corridors</a> soon!

Portugal to Reopen Hotels and Beaches: The Latest Portugal Coronavirus News

With low-cost airlines including EasyJet and RyanAir having resumed some flights on 15 June and 1 July, the prospect of an international holiday is coming closer. <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/portugal" target="_blank">Portugal</a> tentatively kicked off tourism on 1 June with the reopening of hotels, and the country is now welcoming tourists - yes, you read that right! 
With the first and second phases having been a success (or rather: not having resulted in another disaster), Portugal is now in phase 3 of relaxing its lockdown restrictions. Various establishments including shops, restaurants and museums are allowed to open, although at 50% capacity and with social distance in place. The most exciting news, however, is that tourists are now allowed in the country. Read on for more information about the current situation in Portugal. 
Portugal’s Plan to Recovery
On 30 April Portugal’s Council of Ministers approved a three-phase plan to ease lockdown restrictions within the country. The sector-by-sector plan is to be reviewed every 15 days and revised as the situation requires. 
PHASE 1: 4 MAY
From the 4th of May, public transport was allowed to resume at two-thirds capacity. Small local businesses were permitted to reopen, including hair and nail salons (by appointment only), bookshops, car dealerships, libraries and archives. Individual sports like tennis and golf could be resumed – although players will have to get dressed for the activity at home, as changing rooms will remain closed. 
From this information, we are imagining that, if we were Portuguese, we would have spent our first day of relative freedom getting our hair and nails done (about time!), picking up a few groceries, browsing the bookshop for the latest thriller, buying a new car, doing a little research and rounding things off with a rousing game of golf. Just. Because. We. Can. What a truly excellent day that would have been! 
PHASE 2: 18 MAY
As the number of coronavirus cases in Portugal has maintained its downward curve, the country was allowed to enter <a href="https://nitravelnews.com/news/portugal-enters-second-phase-of-reopening-strategy/" rel="NO FOLLOW" target="_blank">phase 2</a> on 18 May. This is a really good phase because in it, restaurants, cafés, bakeries and esplanades can open at 50% capacity - although without table decorations but with contactless payment and proper ventilation. Can’t complain about that. 
Larger shopping venues up to 400 square metres are now available to people long starved of them. Museums have also reopened for that vital culture fix - coincidentally, on International Museum Day! This must feel almost like real life again. 
Some schools are reopening: childcare centres and preschools as well as grade 11 and grade 12 high school students. Other classes will continue to function remotely for the remainder of the academic year. 
All the while, the usual safety measures are still in place. Residents must wear their masks, stay two metres apart and disinfect their hands and shared surfaces regularly. 
PHASE 3: 1 JUNE
The Portuguese can now head to venues where crowds congregate: shopping malls, cinemas and theatres. What’s more, going back to the office – something we might have considered a downside back when life was normal but which now looks highly desirable – &nbsp;is now allowed, although remote working is still preferred where possible. 
Hotels with ‘clean and safe’ status were allowed to reopen to guests on 1 June. Beaches opened on 6 June, with sunbathers ordered to keep at least 1.5 metres apart and parasols three metres apart. A new traffic light system will allow beachgoers to check how busy beaches are ahead of time: red for ‘full’, orange for ‘filling up’ and green for ‘plenty of space’. In all phases, social distancing protocols will remain in effect, and masks must be worn. 
It’s a Process
Portugal’s plan, like similar plans around the world, doesn’t come with a guarantee of success. “We know this process has risks,” Prime Minister António Costa said. “We know that as we open up various activities, the risk of transmission will increase.” 
We are going to keep quoting Costa because he’s like the Winston Churchill of Portugal in the Coronavirus Age: “I will never be ashamed to take a step back if necessary for the safety of the Portuguese”. Costa stresses that even if all goes well, “it does not mean that the pandemic is over, that the risk is overcome.” One more stirring quote and we’ll stop, promise: “We must continue to actively prevent and combat the pandemic.” 
But Portugal has a few tricks up its sleeve to keep on top of the situation. One is a ‘<a href="https://www.travelweekly.co.uk/articles/368897/portugal-launches-covid-19-hygiene-certification" rel="no follow" target="_blank">clean and safe</a>’ badge, an initiative for companies meant to boost confidence amongst their workers – and tourists, when they’re back in the picture. Organisations that meet hygiene requirements stipulated by the authorities are rewarded with such a badge, good for one year. The country is also working to implement a contact-tracing mobile app to help monitor new cases of the coronavirus. 
Football
Football gets its own heading because, well, what proves that life goes on better than football? The country’s football league, the Primeira Liga, suspended play on 13 March, with 10 matches left to go. As of 30 May, the Portuguese government allowed the league to start playing again. Matches are now to be played without spectators, which is fairly surreal, a little like that old philosophical question, ‘If a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one around to hear it, does it make a sound?’. Still, even matches without spectators yield scores, right? 
How Hotels Responded
As a country that’s heavily dependent on tourism - in 2018, the sector made up <a href="https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-portugal-tourism/coronavirus-fears-pressure-portugals-tourism-dependent-economy-idUKKBN20X1V0" rel="no follow" target="_blank">14.6%</a> of the gross domestic product - hotels in Portugal are itching to open their doors again. And the exciting news is: some of them have been open from 1 June onwards - although predominantly to Portuguese residents. 
Elidérico Viegas, president of the Algarve hotelier association AHETA, said: “Even a 40% occupancy rate for the summer, fuelled mostly by Portuguese tourists, would be an optimistic scenario and would help mitigate the losses that hotels experienced since the pandemic started”. 
A recent update from Portuguese hotel chain Vila Galé announced the gradual reopening of their hotels starting in June, with a reassuring safety plan in place. 
Will Holidays to Portugal Be Possible in 2020?
There’s good news on that front. The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs has <a href="https://www.weheartlisbon.com/en/specials-en/coronavirus" rel="no follow" target="_blank">announced</a> that travellers, including tourists, will be allowed in Portugal as of 4 June. And yes, the UK is on that list. As of 6 June, all EU countries have been added to this list list, excluding Spain and Italy. 
When you fly into the country, you won’t have to quarantine for 14 days (which is good news, because by then your holiday is just about over and you’ll have to fly back to dreary old England). Instead, a simple health check will be carried out - think checking your temperature and assessing whether or not you have a cold. 
Your holiday will include mandatory face masks while outside and will require you to make reservations if you wish to visit a public place, but hey! Some Portugal is better than none, right? 
However, it’s important to note that the UK government once again recommends that you don’t travel to Portugal (with the exception of the Azores and Madeira) unless absolutely necessary - and even then, once you return back to the UK after your trip, you will have to self-isolate for 14 days. It looks like it’s best to hold off on booking your holiday for the time being… but we’ve got our fingers crossed that Portugal will return to the list of <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/blog/everything-need-to-know-about-uk-air-bridges-and-travel-corridors" target="_blank">government-approved travel corridors</a> soon!. 
If you’re still unsure of whether or not to go on holiday to Portugal this summer, then here’s some hopeful and inspiring news: if you booked your holiday before the coronavirus changed the world, Portugal wants you to consider your trip postponed, not cancelled. 
Did you book a holiday to Portugal for sometime between 13 March and 30 September 2020? Did you go through a travel agency and/or were planning to stay at an accredited holiday accommodation, such as a hotel or an Airbnb? Portugal will make it easy for you to reschedule. According to Rita Marques, the Portuguese Secretary of State for Tourism, Portugal will give you a <a href="https://www.neweurope.eu/article/portugal-introduces-voucher-scheme-for-cancelled-holidays/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">voucher for a future holiday</a>, redeemable until 31 December 2021. 
If the coronavirus beast is not yet slain by then, making travel to Portugal impossible, you’ll be eligible for a refund in 2026.
"We are being absolute pioneers in the European context,” says Marques. “Our priority is to safeguard consumer rights and the interests of economic operators.”

Portugal Travel Advice: It Safe to Travel to Portugal Right Now?
Unfortunately, not quite. You can now enter the country but the UK government’s travel advice discourages all but essential travel. So the sad but true answer to “Can I travel to Portugal yet?” is no. 
We Miss You, Portugal
All those times we complained because we took Spanish in school but that didn’t help us as much as we had hoped with Portuguese. All those times we were annoyed with the spell checker for being right that there’s another ‘u’ after the ‘g’ and before the ‘ese’ in ‘Portuguese’. All those times we weren’t sure if Algarve is one word or two. (Hi, your new coworker says brightly, my name is Al Garve!) 
Oh, we’ll never, ever complain again, Portugal, because we miss you and we love you. Even if we didn’t book a holiday with you for 2020 before the coronavirus, we’d like to consider our trip only postponed, not cancelled.

Ah. Now isn’t that nice? We bet you’re wondering when it will be safe to <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/morocco" target="_blank">travel to Morocco</a> now, if you weren’t already. Well, we have some good news. Flights to Morocco from the UK have resumed.&nbsp; 
You know what - before we go any further, let’s have a recap on what’s happening with the lockdown in Morocco and the latest advice for travelling to Morocco.&nbsp;

	What the Coronavirus Means for Morocco</div>
Morocco has been on lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus since 20 March. Authorities in the country declared a nighttime curfew to fortify the quarantine restrictions put in place. For four weeks, Moroccans were not permitted to leave their homes between the hours of 6pm and 6am. The <a href="https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/05/303494/morocco-to-lift-night-time-curfew-after-eid-al-fitr/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">curfew</a> was loosened by two hours a day in observance of Ramadan, beginning on 23 April. 
Just days before the curfew was instated, restaurants, cafes and <a href="https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/03/296335/covid-19-morocco-to-close-restaurants-cafes-monday-evening/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">hammams</a> were told to shut their doors, along with all the other nonessential businesses and public places. 
The state of emergency that was declared by Saad Eddine El Othmani, Morocco’s Head of Government, was originally scheduled to expire on 20 May. The government decided, however, that it would be best to extend the order a few more weeks - now it is set to end on <a href="https://www.garda.com/crisis24/news-alerts/378206/morocco-authorities-extend-health-state-of-emergency-until-october-10-update-30" rel="NO FOLLOW" target="_blank">10 October</a>.&nbsp; 
Alright, so it sounds like all we have to do is hold out until that fateful Saturday when Morocco opens up again in October.

Is it safe to travel to Morocco right now ?
It’s clear that El Othmani’s priority lies with human lives. His extension of the lockdown to 10 October shows just that. Although Morocco wants to move forward, just like the rest of us, the government is being smart about how it goes about loosening restrictions.&nbsp; 
So how does Morocco plan to monitor health and safety once it starts to reopen? Similarly to other countries, Morocco has opted for a <a href="https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/05/303466/moroccos-tourism-transport-federation-prepares-for-re-opening/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">sanitation and hygiene certificate</a>, which can be granted when tourism transportation companies reach a certain quality of hygiene and sanitation that meets international standards. 
Because tourism plays a major role in the Moroccan economy, the government is eager to get it going again. However, they are not willing to sacrifice health or safety by inviting holiday-goers over without the right measures in place. We think this is a good thing! 
Tourism in Morocco in 2020
We don’t know if the Moroccan shut down is going to be extended, but we have to remember that when Morocco does open again, the wait will have been well worth it.&nbsp;

There’s nothing quite like sipping mint tea and eating B’ssara in the morning as you overlook the <a href="https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/morocco/tanger-tetouan-al-hoceima/tangier-assilah-prefecture/tangier.html" rel="NO FOLLOW" target="_blank">Bay of Tangier</a> from your hotel room. Hotel occupancy has been down 63% since the lockdown was put into place in March. The hotels are practically shaking with excitement to open their doors to you, trust us.&nbsp; 
Morocco is doing its best to take the COVID-19 pandemic in stride and take responsible measures to keep people safe. As the pandemic began to slow, the government gave the go-ahead on the reopening of <a href="https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/05/302430/morocco-reopens-weekly-souks-in-covid-19-free-regions/" rel="NO FOLLOW" target="_blank">souks</a> - which are sort of like farmer’s markets - on 10 May.&nbsp; 
It wasn’t just a free-for-all at the market though. There were plenty of regulations in place to avoid the potential spread of the virus. For starters, they are now scheduled over a four day period, instead of the typical one day affair, to spread out attendance. And souks are only permitted to reopen in the COVID-free regions of Morocco.&nbsp; 
When Will Morocco Allow Tourists?
Well, we’re not sure right now - but it could be soon! While they did <a href="http://thepointsguy.co.uk/guide/reopening-soon-a-country-by-country-guide-to-coronavirus-recovery/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">partially reopen their borders</a> on 14 July to allow visitors to leave the country and let Moroccan citizens back in, they are still <a href="http://www.worldnomads.com/travel-safety/north-africa/morocco/travel-alerts" rel="no follow" target="_blank">closed for international travel and tourism</a>. The state of emergency is currently set to end on 10 October, and we’re sure travel restrictions will be reassessed then. 
The good news is that Morocco is a beautiful place to visit year-round, so you’ll enjoy your next trip no matter when it is. We can’t say for sure when Morocco will be open for tourism again. If we’re being optimistic, we can hope to start packing our bags soon. 
It’s also important to note that the UK government still recommends that you don’t travel to Morocco unless absolutely necessary - and even then, once you return back to the UK after your trip, you will have to self-isolate for 14 days. It looks like it’s best to hold off on booking your holiday for the time being… but we’ve got our fingers crossed that Morocco will be added to the list of <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/blog/everything-need-to-know-about-uk-air-bridges-and-travel-corridors" target="_blank">government-approved travel corridors</a> soon! 
And this doesn’t mean we can’t still plan our trips and have them mapped out for whenever it becomes safe to travel again!

The self-isolation period for people returning from countries not on the travel corridor has been cut from 14 days to 10 days. This can be cut further as part of the test to release scheme. Under the scheme you can choose to pay for a private COVID-19 test. The earliest you can take the test is 5 full days after you left a destination not on the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-travel-corridors" rel="no follow" target="_blank">travel corridor list</a>. If the result is negative, you can stop self-isolating.

But the coronavirus pandemic spared no part of the world, and much like every other country, Dubai went into lockdown for a while. The good news is that the emirate’s strict sterilisation efforts have paid off, and the country has now opened its doors to international visitors once more - and yes, the UK is on that list. What’s more, as of 14th November the FCDO will no longer advises against travel to the UAE. The UAE is now on the list of countries and territories where self-isolation is not required on return to the UK. However travellers coming from the UK to Dubai have the option to either present a negative COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test before departure, which is valid for 96 hours from the date of the test, or to take a PCR test on arrival at Dubai airport. 
The Latest Coronavirus News in Dubai 
THE INITIAL LOCKDOWN
<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/uae/dubai">Dubai</a> took the outbreak of the coronavirus very seriously, instituting some of the strictest lockdown measures seen anywhere in the world. A curfew, at first only for nighttime but then expanded to 24 hours, mandated that residents could leave their homes only for ‘essential’ reasons (the usual grocery shopping, doctor visits and trips to the pharmacy).&nbsp; 
Even for such necessary outings a police permit was required. The online application asked for a national ID number, address, phone number, reason for leaving the house, destination and expected time of departure and return. If granted, the permit had to be used within 24 hours, and residents had to apply for a new one every time they wanted to leave the house. 
The police took infractions very seriously. Anyone found outside their home without permission, or without wearing gloves and a mask, could face a substantial fine.&nbsp; 
With the streets thus deserted during the curfew, the city was busy sterilising everything. Everything. Steets, public transport facilities, even parks were sprayed with disinfectant. 
EASING UP
On 24 April, at the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan (23 April to 23 May), <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/uae/dubai">Dubai</a> began relaxing its stringent lockdown rules. Police permits are now a thing of the past. Many commercial establishments have been allowed to reopen, although they are subject to the usual kinds of rules in keeping with social distancing procedures. 
Businesses have been allowed to reopen at 30% capacity; employees in other sectors are encouraged to continue working remotely. 
Shopping malls, shopping centres and markets (yes, we need to say all three: there are a lot of shopping opportunities in Dubai!) will be open during restricted hours and at reduced capacity.

Many restaurants are opening again, although only at 30% capacity and with two metres required between tables. People are once again allowed to have their hair and nails done at salons, but only by appointment. 
Public transport is back in operation, but again with some restrictions. The <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/uae/dubai">Dubai</a> Metro is running, with social distancing and masks required for staff and passengers. You can take a taxi, but only two people are allowed in one at a time, and water transport, limousines and car-sharing services are still off limits. 
Public parks have reopened, and sports and recreational activities are permitted again – providing no more than five people gather together.

As of 29 May, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-emirates-dubai/dubai-reopens-four-beaches-and-major-parks-to-public-starting-friday-idUSKBN2343FJ" rel="no follow" target="_blank">four beaches</a> have been reopened to the general public, as well as the Dubai Frame, an architectural landmark in Zabeel Park. Looks like it’s time to break out that swimming costume again! 
All this is good news for everyone except those over 60 and those between three and 12 – they’re still on lockdown for their own safety. 
Gyms, massage parlours, cinemas, pools and mosques have all been given the green light to resume services again, although they must follow strict precautionary measures.

How Hotels in Dubai Responded
As prospective tourists, our minds naturally turn to the lodging situation. Are hotels now open? The short answer is yes, but first let’s back up and give a longer answer because during the worst of the crisis the UAE had a really good idea about what to do with empty hotels: they made them available as quarantine areas for people who had only mild cases of COVID-19. Here they could remain in isolation from the general population until they recovered, thus reserving hospital beds for people suffering from serious coronavirus cases.&nbsp; 
Now, with Dubai’s cautious reopening, private hotels are welcoming travellers again, with – you knew we were going to say this – certain restrictions in place. But the good news is a lot of these hotels are on the beach, and people are allowed on the beach! Yes, you have to have your temperature checked, keep your distance, wear your mask and bring your own towel, but that seems like a small price to pay for being on the beach in Dubai. Not least because you are paying a small price – or at least a smaller one – because hotel rates are much lower than usual. 
Holidays to Dubai: 2020 and Beyond
That’s the state of play for the locals. What does the situation look like for international tourists?
The short answer? Really good! 
Dubai is officially <a href="https://www.traveloffpath.com/dubai-reopening-for-tourism-on-july-7-all-countries-welcome/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">allowing international visitors</a> into the country again, and has been since 7 July. To enter the UAE, international travellers must:

<h2>Where Are the Balearic Islands in Terms of Reopening?</h2> 
THE BACKSTORY
Like the rest of <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/spain" target="_blank">Spain</a>, the Balearics were subject to the country’s <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/blog/spain-has-announced-a-plan-to-ease-coronavirus-lockdown" target="_blank">four-phase plan</a>, announced by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at the end of April, to return the country to normalcy following the coronavirus outbreak. The Spanish government outlined <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/blog/spain-has-announced-a-plan-to-ease-coronavirus-lockdown" target="_blank">a gradual reopening of the country</a>, whereby lockdown restrictions could be eased phase by phase, at intervals of about two weeks, depending on how the situation played out. 
The plan is a good plan: it proceeds in an orderly manner, it takes feedback on board as it progresses, it divides the country into regions based on the local severity of the pandemic and it is underpinned by a <a href="https://english.elpais.com/politics/2020-05-08/spanish-government-announces-areas-that-will-move-to-the-next-phase-of-coronavirus-deescalation-plan-on-monday.html" rel="no follow" target="_blank">scientific evaluation of conditions</a> in specific areas: “an epidemiological ranking based on four parameters (cases, deaths, hospital admissions and critical care unit occupation)”.

Local residents can expect more freedoms as well: all shops will be open at 50% capacity and capacity restrictions will further reduce for bars and restaurants. A new outfit and drinks out at a bar? What more could you want! If you answered that you’d love to dance the night away, we’re sorry to report discos and nightclubs are still not open just yet - but give it time! 
<h2>A recap of phase 1 and 2 freedoms</h2>
Since phase 2 kicked off, you’ve been able to eat out again with table service, visit places of worship and go to cinemas and theatres. These establishments must, however, run at limited capacity for the time being. 
Households with two working parents can leave their kids at an educational centre while they are at work, and attending wakes and weddings is on the table once again (with a limited number of people). Cultural events are also open now, although there must be fewer than 80 attendees in enclosed spaces and fewer than 800 in outdoor spaces. 
Oh, and perhaps the best news? Beaches are open for business once again! Beachgoers must make sure they maintain appropriate social distancing rules - which is a small price to pay for some fun in the sun, if you ask us. 
All of this is on top of the reinstated freedoms that came with phase 1, which kicked off on 25 May. This included being able to leave your house (only at specified times, but with a generous schedule) to enjoy things everybody took for granted before the coronavirus outbreak. For example, shopping for anything you want at smaller establishments, including outdoor markets, as long as social distancing regulations are observed.

Other luxuries have been allowed since then as well, like dining at a sidewalk café or a restaurant terrace as long as they are operating at 75% capacity. Partaking of hand sanitiser at the entrance, you proceed to your table, where a masked server doesn’t hand you a physical menu – the information about the delicacies on offer is digitised. 
Phase 1 saw gatherings with other people allowed again – up to 10 of you at a time – either outdoors or in somebody’s home, provided you kept your social distance. Phase 2 kicked this number up to 15 and now, in phase 3, this number has been raised yet again to 20. 
Since phase 1, you’ve been allowed to stay at a hotel, which is nice, because you’re probably heartily sick of your own home after all that time on lockdown. Common areas are open once more and are operating at 50% capacity.
Now that Spain is no longer in a state of emergency, Balearic Islanders can travel freely around all regions of the country, although essential travel is still encouraged. 
<h2>Three phases and you’re out</h2>
Some of Spain is already in the fourth and final phase - the <a href="https://www.spainenglish.com/2020/06/22/spain-new-normality-key-points/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">new normalcy</a> you’ve been hearing oh so much about - and the Balearic Islands are expected to enter this phase soon as well. We’re very excited for them!

<h2>When Will the Balearics be Open for Tourist Business?</h2>
The Balearic Islands are pleased to report they’re <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/travel/11756122/travel-advice-ibiza-majorca-spain/" rel="no follow" target="_blank">open for international tourist business</a> again right now (most importantly to us Brits, but also to the majority of the EU and the Schengen zone) - and it goes without saying we’re loving this news. The self-isolation period for people returning from countries not on the travel corridor has been cut from 14 days to 10 days. This can be cut further as part of the test to release scheme. Under the scheme you can choose to pay for a private COVID-19 test. The earliest you can take the test is 5 full days after you left a destination not on the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-travel-corridors" rel="no follow" target="_blank">travel corridor list</a>. If the result is negative, you can stop self-isolating.

, the reopening of Malta has begun - <a href="https://www.visitmalta.com/en/reopening-airport" rel="no follow" target="_blank">certain countries</a> (including the UK) are now allowed to visit the country - and comes with a detailed set of guidelines to promote the health and safety of the Maltese and tourists alike. 
However, it’s important to note that the UK government once again recommends that you don’t travel to Malta unless absolutely necessary - and even then, once you return back to the UK after your trip, you will have to self-isolate for 10 days. This could even be cut to 5 days if you take a test and return a negative result as part of the government's test to release scheme. It looks like it’s best to hold off on booking your holiday for the time being… but we’ve got our fingers crossed that Malta will return to the list of <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/blog/everything-need-to-know-about-uk-air-bridges-and-travel-corridors" target="_blank">government-approved travel corridors</a> soon!

Holidays to Malta 2026: Is It Safe to Travel to Malta?
It’s possible that you haven’t heard much from Malta amidst the chaos of the coronavirus. But that means that the island nation hasn’t had much to report - a good sign! Although being an island does help to contain the spread of disease, Malta has actually been an exemplary country when it comes to pandemic response - so much so that it’s being used as a case study by the World Health Organisation for effective disease control.&nbsp; 

 Well, things didn’t get easier from there. Restaurants, clubs, gyms, and entertainment spaces were closed by 16 March, and by 20 March, all travel into the country was suspended (except for humanitarian flights, ferries and other necessary movement in and out of the country).
 

 Julia Farrugia Portelli, Malta’s Minister for Tourism, was part of the team that made the difficult decision to close ports of travel to Malta. Hard as it was, it proved to be the best course of action for the country. The closures to travel and mandatory quarantine of citizens meant that Malta avoided the brunt of the coronavirus.
 

 Despite the closures of public places, the Maltese Government has been busy devoting energy to improving popular tourism hubs throughout the country. We’ve all taken up a new project or two during quarantine over the past couple of months, and the Malta Tourism Authority has been right there with us. “We don’t want to go back to normal,” Farrugia Portelli said in response to the improvements that Malta is making, “We want to excel, and provide a better service to upcoming tourists.”
 

 It sounds like when things do open up to tourists again, Malta will boast better and brighter accommodation, historic sites and attractions than before the shut-down. Imagine what it was like to wake up on your birthday as a kid and have lots of new things to play with - that’s what travelling to Malta will be like. How exciting!
 
THE REOPENING OF MALTA
Prime Minister Robert Abela recently made <a href="https://www.independent.com.mt/articles/2020-05-18/local-news/Live-Prime-Minister-Robert-Abela-to-address-a-press-conference-6736223279" rel="no follow" target="_blank">the announcement</a> that starting 22 May, restaurants and salons will be allowed to reopen. That’s not all. No-contact sports like tennis and diving can resume practice, despite not allowing spectators yet. Clinics can begin to see patients again for things other than COVID-19, too.&nbsp;

So you can start your day with a fresh new hair-do, get your nails done - maybe add some rhinestones - order yourself a bowl of aljotta for lunch, and get your teeth cleaned that afternoon. What a day!
Yes, this is all fine and dandy, but when did hotels open, you ask? 
The announcement from Prime Minister Abela also revealed hotels were allowed to reopen on 22 May, and airports have been open since <a href="https://www.visitmalta.com/en/covid-19" rel="no follow" target="_blank">1 July</a> - meaning a selection of countries from around the world are allowed into the country now. The UK has been on this list since 11 July. 
Once you enter the country, expect to wear a face mask, have a thermal screening at the airport and to declare what countries you’ve visited in the last 30 days - but no swab test! It’s the little things in life, isn’t it?
All of this reopening excitement does come with restrictions, let’s not forget. Accomodation and other establishments must follow sector-specific mandatory conditions and checklists. Boy, that was a mouthful. But it’s true! And it’s meant to fulfill the safety and health needs of tourists and those working in the tourism industry, alike. We all want that, right? 
What Would a Trip to Malta Look Like Right Now?
Well, since the waters off <a href="https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/malta/malta/mellieha/popeye-village.html" rel="no follow" target="_blank">Popeye Village</a> are sparkling - let’s dive in, shall we?
Don’t be surprised if there’s a plastic barrier between you and your hotel receptionist - you’ve probably already seen this at your local shops anyway. &nbsp;You also might notice plenty of hand sanitising stations throughout your hotel, and masks and social distancing will be observed wherever you might come into contact with the public. Although these extras aren’t typical when it comes to enjoying a holiday, we’re all used to them by now.&nbsp;

Outdoor dining will be the norm, too, and tables will be stationed two metres apart. Public transportation is operating normally - with increased cleanliness, of course - and you only have to wear a face mask when social distancing isn’t possible.

At 5pm on 10th December 2026, the Transport Secretary in the UK announced that due to increasing infection rates, the Canary Islands were to be taken off the travel corridor list as of 4am 12th December. Anyone wishing to visit the islands will need to quarantine for 14 days upon their return – unless they opt in to the test and release scheme to be launched on 15th December. This test and release scheme allows travellers who return to the UK from countries not on the travel corridor list – like the Canaries – to only quarantine for 5 days if they provide a negative COVID-19 test upon their return.&nbsp;

Coronavirus Safety Measures in the Canaries
Most of the safety protocols you can expect are actually quite pleasant, including:&nbsp;

Background: Spain’s Four-Phase Reopening Plan
Let’s wind back a bit to look at what preceded the reopening of the Canaries.&nbsp; 
THE INITIAL LOCKDOWN
All of Spain went into lockdown on 14 March. In the Canaries, this meant that you could go out (as a lonely only, just one person at a time) for food, medications, basic needs and health care. ‘Urgent’ visits to banks and insurance companies were also permitted (we shudder to think what might constitute an urgent visit to an insurance company). You were also allowed to get pet food (good news for Fluffy) and, for some reason, stationery. 
At the end of April, Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, announced the country’s four-phase plan to ease lockdown restrictions and reopen the country. The phases weren’t given exact dates because so much depended on facts on the ground, but each was estimated to last about two weeks.

PHASE 0 - 26 APRIL
The country started to ease its rigorous lockdown on 26 April, when children under 14 were allowed out the house for the first time in a month and a half, for one hour a day. Their parents were soon to follow on 2 May - who knows what these kids had been up to in the week before! 
PHASE 1 - 11 MAY
In phase 1, which kicked off on 11 May, greater freedoms were to be permitted: larger shops could open, restaurant terraces could open (at reduced capacity) and hotels and other tourist accommodations could resume business - all of this with proper social distancing protocols and personal protection measures in place, of course.&nbsp;

In formulating their overall plan, the Spanish government took regional differences into account, since obviously some parts of the country suffered greater losses from the pandemic than others. The government took a very scientific approach: they assessed each regional situation using “an epidemiological ranking based on four parameters (cases, deaths, hospital admissions and critical care unit occupation)”. We are impressed. 
PHASE 2 - 25 MAY
And we are happy to report that the plan is working: all regions of Spain have made it to at least <a href="https://www.thelocal.es/20200522/these-are-the-provinces-advancing-to-phase-1-and-phase-2" rel="no follow" target="_blank">phase 2</a>!&nbsp;&nbsp;and <a href="https://www.thelocal.es/20200522/these-are-the-provinces-advancing-to-phase-1-and-phase-2" rel="no follow" target="_blank">much of Spain has graduated to phase 2</a>! This means that the locals can now eat out again with table service, go to theatres and cinemas and visit places of worship, although all public spaces and establishments must operate at limited capacity.&nbsp;
In phase two, cultural events are also on the agenda again with fewer than 50 people allowed in enclosed spaces and no more than 400 in outside spaces. Residents can attend wakes and weddings with a limited number of people, and households with two working parents are allowed to deposit their kids in an educational centre. It’s starting to feel like normal life again.&nbsp;

PHASE 3 - 8 JUNE
Phase 3 kicked off on the 8th of June - much of Spain is now in it and the Canary Islands made the list. Local residents now have more freedom of movement and more freedom of shopping, as all shops have reopened at 50% capacity. You’ll see bars and restaurants gradually become fuller, although guests will need to remain separated.&nbsp;Even discos and nightclubs have reopened at a third of their capacity. 
PHASE 4, THE 'NEW NORMALITY' - 21 JUNE

In June, many of the regions of Spain entered the ‘<a href="https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/coronavirus-" rel="no follow" target="_blank">new normal</a>’ phase, which comes with the usual safety measures like 1.5 metre social distancing, capacity restrictions, face masks and track and trace.
However, fluctuations in the <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52473523" rel="no follow" target="_blank">R-rating</a> of the coronavirus in Spain may cause a relaxation or strengthening of safety measures, nationally and internationally.

Holidays to the Canary Islands are unfortunately no longer quarantine-free once again. However, with the new test and release scheme, the period you’ll need to quarantine for can be as little as 5 days, which in a bad year is a good bit of news at the very least.&nbsp;

Travelling To Malta This Summer Coronavirus Update

The self-isolation period for people returning from countries not on the travel corridor has been cut from 14 days to 10 days. This can be cut further as part of the test to release scheme. Under the scheme you can choose to pay for a private COVID-19 test. The earliest you can take the test is 5 full days after you left a destination not on the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-travel-corridors" rel="no follow" target="_blank">travel corridor list</a>. If the result is negative, you can stop self-isolating. 
Now that some affordable airlines like EasyJet and Ryanair are <a href="https://www.derryjournal.com/read-this/when-flights-could-resume-expected-travel-dates-jet2-ryanair-and-british-airways-2553416" rel="no follow" target="_blank">resuming some flights</a> in June and July, you can finally uncover those bags you had packed for your trip to Malta before the coronavirus changed the world in March, right? Right! <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/malta/malta">Malta</a>

It’s important that we spend time away from our daily routines - getting a little rest and relaxation on holiday is great for mental health and overall happiness. The FCDO is once again <a href="https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/malta" rel="no follow" target="_blank">advising against any travel</a> other than necessary to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/malta">Malta</a>
, and Malta is allowing Brits back in again - so it’s not quite time to start planning your holiday.&nbsp; 
According to the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/guides/malta/malta">Malta Tourism Authority</a>
, the reopening of Malta has begun - <a href="https://www.visitmalta.com/en/reopening-airport" rel="no follow" target="_blank">certain countries</a> (including the UK) are now allowed to visit the country - and comes with a detailed set of guidelines to promote the health and safety of the Maltese and tourists alike. 
However, it’s important to note that the UK government once again recommends that you don’t travel to Malta unless absolutely necessary - and even then, once you return back to the UK after your trip, you will have to self-isolate for 10 days. This could even be cut to 5 days if you take a test and return a negative result as part of the government's test to release scheme. It looks like it’s best to hold off on booking your holiday for the time being… but we’ve got our fingers crossed that Malta will return to the list of <a href="https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/blog/everything-need-to-know-about-uk-air-bridges-and-travel-corridors" target="_blank">government-approved travel corridors</a> soon!

 may have to wait just a bit longer! 
Holidays to Malta 2020: Is It Safe to Travel to Malta?
It’s possible that you haven’t heard much from Malta amidst the chaos of the coronavirus. But that means that the island nation hasn’t had much to report - a good sign! Although being an island does help to contain the spread of disease, Malta has actually been an exemplary country when it comes to pandemic response - so much so that it’s being used as a case study by the World Health Organisation for effective disease control.&nbsp;
So what did Malta do that was so effective? Let’s go into it for a bit.&nbsp; 
Malta's Response to the Coronavirus
Just days after the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Malta on 7 March, the tourism authority announced a mandatory 14-day quarantine for tourists visiting from anywhere. This wasn’t an easy call to make, as the island would be sorely impacted economically without a steady stream of tourists to jaunt around Malta and Gozo.

Well, things didn’t get easier from there. Restaurants, clubs, gyms, and entertainment spaces were closed by 16 March, and by 20 March, all travel into the country was suspended (except for humanitarian flights, ferries and other necessary movement in and out of the country). 
Julia Farrugia Portelli, Malta’s Minister for Tourism, was part of the team that made the difficult decision to close ports of travel to Malta. Hard as it was, it proved to be the best course of action for the country. The closures to travel and mandatory quarantine of citizens meant that Malta avoided the brunt of the coronavirus.&nbsp;
Despite the closures of public places, the Maltese Government has been busy devoting energy to improving popular tourism hubs throughout the country. We’ve all taken up a new project or two during quarantine over the past couple of months, and the Malta Tourism Authority has been right there with us. “We don’t want to go back to normal,” Farrugia Portelli said in response to the improvements that Malta is making, “We want to excel, and provide a better service to upcoming tourists.”&nbsp; 
It sounds like when things do open up to tourists again, Malta will boast better and brighter accommodation, historic sites and attractions than before the shut-down. Imagine what it was like to wake up on your birthday as a kid and have lots of new things to play with - that’s what travelling to Malta will be like. How exciting!&nbsp; 
THE REOPENING OF MALTA
Prime Minister Robert Abela recently made <a href="https://www.independent.com.mt/articles/2020-05-18/local-news/Live-Prime-Minister-Robert-Abela-to-address-a-press-conference-6736223279" rel="no follow" target="_blank">the announcement</a> that starting 22 May, restaurants and salons will be allowed to reopen. That’s not all. No-contact sports like tennis and diving can resume practice, despite not allowing spectators yet. Clinics can begin to see patients again for things other than COVID-19, too.&nbsp;

So you can start your day with a fresh new hair-do, get your nails done - maybe add some rhinestones - order yourself a bowl of aljotta for lunch, and get your teeth cleaned that afternoon. What a day!
Yes, this is all fine and dandy, but when did hotels open, you ask? 
The announcement from Prime Minister Abela also revealed hotels were allowed to reopen on 22 May, and airports have been open since <a href="https://www.visitmalta.com/en/covid-19" rel="no follow" target="_blank">1 July</a> - meaning a selection of countries from around the world are allowed into the country now. The UK has been on this list since 11 July. 
Once you enter the country, expect to wear a face mask, have a thermal screening at the airport and to declare what countries you’ve visited in the last 30 days - but no swab test! It’s the little things in life, isn’t it? 
All of this reopening excitement does come with restrictions, let’s not forget. Accomodation and other establishments must follow sector-specific mandatory conditions and checklists. Boy, that was a mouthful. But it’s true! And it’s meant to fulfill the safety and health needs of tourists and those working in the tourism industry, alike. We all want that, right? 
What Would a Trip to Malta Look Like Right Now?
Well, since the waters off <a href="https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/malta/malta/mellieha/popeye-village.html" rel="no follow" target="_blank">Popeye Village</a> are sparkling - let’s dive in, shall we?
Don’t be surprised if there’s a plastic barrier between you and your hotel receptionist - you’ve probably already seen this at your local shops anyway. &nbsp;You also might notice plenty of hand sanitising stations throughout your hotel, and masks and social distancing will be observed wherever you might come into contact with the public. Although these extras aren’t typical when it comes to enjoying a holiday, we’re all used to them by now.&nbsp;

Public transportation is operating normally - with increased cleanliness, of course - and you only have to wear a face mask when social distancing isn’t possible.
